Siren Review: The Last Mermaid (Season 2 Episode 14)

Reviews, Siren

Ryn returns to land after an unsuccessful trip in the water to mate. Helen confronts Ted about her mother and his grandmother having private conversations and gets a whole new window into the world of her mother.

Meanwhile, Ben sneaks inside the military base to find Nicole and comes across something unsettling on Siren Season 2 Episode 14, “The Last Mermaid.”

It’s highly upsetting that Xander would give out sensitive information to Nicole, someone who has proven to him time and time again that she shouldn’t be trusted, about Helen’s graveyard.

I know that she’s been coming around more and more on what seems to be the good side of the situation this season, but she still shouldn’t be completely trusted, even if she is missing.

Now that the military has the bones of Helen’s ancestors and Donna’s body there’s no telling what they could be up to next because their need for Ryn has been diminished now that she’s not the only mermaid available to them.

Day by day the military grows stronger on their knowledge of mermaids and what’s happening in Ryn’s daily life and if they figure out that there are currently five mermaids on land at the moment there’s no telling what they could do.

If the military had the chance, I think they’d more than likely try to take them all by force, ultimately breaking their pact with Ben and Maddie because their resources will have grown and they wouldn’t need to bargain for time with Ryn anymore.

I’m curious as to what the military could get out of Donna’s body that makes her important to them.

She’s been dead for quite some time and they did plenty of experimenting on her while she was alive. So, what more could they need with her?

I wish they’d just leave them to rest in peace. She was tortured enough when she was alive.

As for Nicole, I don’t necessarily hope that she’s dead, but I don’t particularly care about what might’ve happened to her because when you work for the military you’re taking your chances every day that they won’t get rid of you, especially when you’re working a secret operation such as this.

If Ben and them go after Nicole and do find her I want to see her begging for forgiveness to Ryn, Ben, and Maddie for getting them to work with those monsters. She needs to own up to her actions and plead to them for help.

Ryn’s humanness is something that I love more and more with each episode because we get to see her experience all of these brand new emotions for the first time in her life where she knows how to actively think about the situation and possibly come up with solutions.

In the water, there’s no doubt that she has faced the same emotions, but not thought deeply about them.

I’m happy that Maddie can talk some sense into Ryn about family heritage and not being exactly like your family, but I also don’t blame Ryn for being skeptical of Ben’s love.

Ben kept a monumental piece of information away from Ryn and to her, that is enough of a betrayal to mean that he could possibly do just as his great grandfather did. He should have told Ryn the stories and heritage of the town long before now, but he chose to keep his mouth shut on the issue.

Ryn is so influential that she’s leading a whole new generation of mermaids who will procreate on land to save their race and cohabitate between land and water. She’s the mermaid who will actively save their race from extinction, and it’s exciting to think about how far she’s come since Season 1.

She will be the next great mermaid leader by the end of the show, I just know it.

Now the questions are, where is Levi? Where is Nicole? Why do they have Chris brainwashed and hidden away? The military has many dark secrets and now that they’re coming to light I hope that the three of them see who they can trust and get away as fast as possible.

This season is hands down one of the best seasons of Siren and makes me ecstatic to think about what the finale will have in store for viewers.
