TV News Wrap-Up: ‘Jessica Jones’ Gets Final Season Premiere Date, ‘Vida’ Renewed, ‘Stumptown’ Adds ‘New Girl’ Actor
The cancellations keep rolling in, this time with a focus on one network. But there’s also been some good news to go around, from premiere dates to renewals.
Take a look at some the new teasers that dropped this week, and some that have received coveted renewals in this week’s TV-News Wrap-Up.
Teasers & Spoilers
Jessica Jones Season 3 has a premiere date and a special announcement. The last Marvel-Netflix series standing is set to kick off its final season June 14th, as Jessica seemingly takes on one last set of inner demons.

Things are getting more difficult as the field gets more competitive from the looks of the Snowfall Season 3 trailer. John Singleton’s drama continues to tell the story of these young men and drug dealers in the summer of 1984 as they all take stock of the changes, the rising dangers, and the potential risks to their freedom. Snowfall is set to premiere Wednesday, July 10 on FX.

Step into the world of Thra and all of the dangers coming for it with the new entrancing The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance trailer. In the prequel to the 1982 original film, three young Gelfling discover the truth behind the Emperor’s power and set out to fight against “the darkness.” The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance debuts August 30 on Netflix.

Casting News
Gavin & Stacey is getting a one-off holiday special. According to The Hollywood Reporter, James Corden and Ruth Jones have returned to write the special, with Matthew Horne and Joanna Page returning to reprise their titular roles of Gavin and Stacey respectively. The special will air later this year on the BBC.

Jake Johnson is heading to Stumptown. According to TVLine, New Girl’s Jake Johnson will be joining the ABC drama, replacing Mark Webber as Dex Parios’ (played by Colbie Smulders) best friend, Grey McConnel. Grey runs a local bar and has a bit of a complicated relationship with Dex and is hiding something from his past.
Renewals and Cancellations
The post-Upfront phase is unusually turbulent as NBC cancels 3 more series. According to Variety, NBC has cancelled The Village, The Enemy Within, and Abby’s just after 1 season. The family drama averaged .6 in ratings, while the drama thriller averaged .74, and the Natalie Morales-led multicamera comedy averaged .42 per episode.

Starz is giving fans more Vida, as the premium cabler renewed the dramedy. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vida’s renewal comes shortly after season 2’s premiere. The half-hour dramedy centers on the lives of 2 sisters returning to the city they grew up in the aftermath of their mother’s death and try to save their mother’s bar and home.

New Series Orders
Hulu adds another series to the roster with Normal People. Variety is reporting that the streaming service has ordered Normal People to series. The story will be adapted from Sally Rooney’s novel by the same name, and follows the lives of Marianne and Connell from their high school to college days and their relationship changes through the years.
