16 Reasons to Watch Good Omens

Good Omens, Lists
11. The Most Lovable Hellhound

Dog lovers are going to love Good Omens. One of the major plot points in the show is the terrifying hellhound the antichrist will receive upon his eleventh birthday.

Here is another way that Good Omens subverts expectations. Instead of an animal that will spread fear everywhere he goes, he is actually an adorable puppy. He makes you want to just scratch its belly and ask who’s a good hellhound.

He’s not just a cute puppy though, he’s a cute puppy that has plot relevance, which makes him even better.

And honestly? He’s just a really adorable puppy.

12. The Queen of it All

The soundtrack is as good as the show itself. First, there’s the iconic theme song which will get stuck in your head. But that’s okay because it’s that good.

Then we have the scores, the scores that are so hauntingly beautiful and romantic. They’re stellar and make the scenes all the better.

And of course, there’s the music that was chosen for particular scenes. It’s mostly Queen, and it’s glorious. We get Crowley coming out of a burning building to “Somebody to love” or passing through hellfire to “I’m in love with my car.” I bet you never thought that song would fit anywhere.

All the music is perfect for the scene it’s in. It’s clear the music was chosen with love as were the rest of the elements of the series.

13. Forms of Love

Despite being a show about stopping the Apocalypse, it’s actually filled with love. There are different kinds of love shown in the show: familial love, romantic love, and friendship.

Anathema’s love for her family and desire to honor them is what makes her stick to a strict way of life. Tadfield is described as a town place that just feels loved.

And the big one is that Crowley and Aziraphale love each other. It’s exceedingly obvious in all their scenes. But they also truly love the world. It’s because they love the world that they want to save it.

14. Twisty in a Good Way

Another not-so-great consequence of television as we know it is the focus on twists. Character development is usually thrown out the window because it’s the twists that matter.

Shows worry more about shocking the audience than being faithful to them. Nowadays it’s all about being subversive — and people should really look up the meaning of that word.

Good Omens values their characters rather than valuing twists. It’s a breath of fresh air. It also helps them. When the twists actually happen they’re there for a reason and not just shock value.

15. Kids are Important

It’s highly amusing that the only ones that seem to do anything in this show are the kids. While the adults, celestial and demonic beings basically run around like chickens with their heads cut off, the kids do something.

These kids are important. Kids aren’t usually important in a show like this. Here the kids actually matter.

When you’re a kid, you’re usually told you can’t make a difference until you’re older. You’re told to grow up first. That’s most definitely not the case here.

All the big plot moments happen because of them.

16. Other Mediums

Good Omens is not just a show, it has other mediums as well.

If you like the show, you will like the book. If you like the book, you will like the show. It’s rare nowadays that an adaptation gets things right, but this one does. Both the book and the show leave you feeling good.

There’s also a radio drama.

Back in 2014, the BBC released a radio drama based off the novel. It featured a great cast with the likes of Mark Heap, Peter Serafinowicz Louise Brealey, Phil Davis, Mark Benton, Colin Morgan, Paterson Joseph, Josie Lawrence, Jim Norton, Adam Thomas Wright, and Hollie Burgess.

It even had cameos from Pratchett and Gaiman.

Good Omens is a show that will leave you feeling good. It’s perfect for those days where you feel like nothing is going your way. It’s uplifting and one hell of a good time. So give it a try, you won’t regret it.

Maii is a 28-year-old writer who can be slightly invested in characters and their stories. She tries to give credit where credit is due but isn’t afraid to be honest in her writing. It's probably best not to ask about Lucifer or A Song of Ice and Fire, because you'll never hear the end of it. She graduated in film and has a certificate/minor in Art History. She brings that into her writing because, well, she’s a nerd. The only thing that beats her love of writing is her love of Pandas.
