TV News Wrap Up: Lin-Manuel Miranda to Guest Star on ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine,’ ‘Killing Eve Season 2 Trailer, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ and More Premiere Dates

Many midseason premieres are in the wings. The next few months will see the premiere of a lot of new series including Killing Eve Season 2 on BBC America and the highly anticipated Good Omens on Amazon Prime.

As the spring news many networks and services are also beginning to order new programming for the near future, including a few series already slated for 2020.

Upcoming Releases

A new Killing Eve Season 2 trailer has dropped! The complicated relationship between an international assassin and an MI6 operative took a turn at the end of Season 1 and Season 2 is poised to pick up right where it left off. You can watch the whole trailer below, and enjoy the sound of Skylar Grey’s cover of “Addicted to Love.”  Killing Eve premieres April 7th on BBC America.

Good Omens has a premiere date! The highly anticipated limited series based on Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s novel will debut on Amazon Prime on May 31st. You can get a look at the show’s opening credits on their official Twitter account. Additionally, at the Television Critics Association, Gaiman announced that Benedict Cumberbatch will voice the animated Satan.

Mark your calendars, The Handmaid’s Tale Season 3 premieres — appropriately — June 5th! TV Line reports that three new episodes will be released that day with subsequent episodes being released on Wednesdays.

The Santa Clarita Diet Season 3 will drop on March 29th! The announcement video puts a zombie-esque spin on traditional wedding vows.

Cancellations & Renewals

AMC announced the end of Into the Badlands. According to Variety, the cancellation isn’t particularly surprising with Into the Badlands being renewed for Seasons 2 and 3 a couple of years ago and filming for Season 3 having been completed a while ago. The cast has since been released. The final eight episodes begin airing March 24th.

The Starz series Counterpart has been canceled after two seasons. TV Line reported a tweet from Executive Producter Justin Marks that broke the news to fans. However, hope is not lost for the series as the studio is hoping to shop Counterpart Season 3 elsewhere.

New Series Orders

Hulu has ordered the Abigail Spencer led revenge-series Reprisal to series.  The series is described as a hyper-kinetic revenge-tale that follows a relentless femme fatale who becomes the bombastic champion of a The Wrap reports that the thriller will premiere sometime in 2019.

Also in the works at Hulu is The Great. The project will star Elle Fanning and is said to be a genre-bending anti-historical drama set in 18th Century Russia.  The Wrap reports that the series will follow, “…the wildly comic rise of Catherine the Nothing to Catherine the Great.”

A Psych: The Movie sequel has been greenlit by USA Network. An exclusive report from TVLine says that the network has officially ordered a followup to the 2017 movie that will take Sean and Gus back to where it all began: Santa Barbara.

Fans of Breaking Bad have Jesse Pinkman sequel to look forward to. The Hollywood Reporter says that Aaron Paul is set to reprise his Emmy-winning role as Jesse Pinkman, Walter White’s former student and business partner, in a sequel movie that will first appear on Netflix and then get a second window on AMC.

Casting News

Lin-Manuel Miranda is going to be guest starring on Brooklyn Nine-Nine! TV Line reports that  Miranda will play Amy’s little brother in Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 9, “The Golden Child,” which airs on March 7th. Miranda was one of the actors who voiced his support for the series following its cancellation by Fox last year. Series creator Dan Goor had previously expressed hope that Miranda and other “Guardians of the Nine-Nine” would appear on the new season.

We know who will be Derek’s fourth sister on Grey’s Anatomy. Amy Acker has been cast as Kathleen appearing in the aforementioned Amelia-centric episode. There is still no date for when the episode will premiere and we have no idea how the new sister’s arrival will affect Amelia. Read our complete report here.

Echo Kellum is leaving Arrow after three and a half seasons. TV Line reports that Arrow Season 7 Episode 13, “Star City Slayer,” marked his last as a series regular, citing the desire to be home with his family. Kellum says he’s open to returning to the Arrowverse as Mr. Terrific in the future.

Kennedy McMann is going to play Nancy Drew in a new pilot at The CW. Deadline reports that the newcomer will play the iconic sleuth.

YOU is adding a Gotham alum to their cast for Season 2. TV Line reports that fans of Oswald Copplepot, aka The Penguin, won’t have to wait long until they see him on their screens again. Robin Lord Taylor has booked a recurring role on the series for its second season. Taylor will play a character named Will who is a ‘thoughtful, personably, and intelligent guy’ who gets caught in a bad situation during Season 2. This news comes as Gotham winds down its final season.
