New Amsterdam Renewed for Season 2
The doctors of New Amsterdam will be around to fight New York City’s broken public healthcare system for another season. As reported by TV Line, the NBC show has been renewed for Season 2.
The show stars Ryan Eggold as Dr. Max Goodwin, the medical director of Manhattan’s New Amsterdam Hospital who commits to helping his patients no matter the cost. It’s based on the life of Dr. Eric Manheimer, who served as medical director of Bellevue Hospital while also battling cancer.
Since New Amsterdam‘s premiere this fall, viewers have been drawn to Max Goodwin’s charming smile and signature phrase, “how can I help?” The show’s pilot was enjoyed by 8.4 million viewers with a 1.8 demo rating.
Now averaging about 6.4 total viewers with a 1.3 demo rating, it’s tied with Chicago Med and Chicago Fire as NBC’s third most popular show behind only the mega-hit drama This Is Us (New Amsterdam‘s Tuesday night partner) and NBC’s newest hit, Manifest.
“We’ve been so excited to see how much audiences have embraced Dr. Max Goodwin and all the characters that make New Amsterdam such an incredibly compelling medical series,” Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, co-presidents of scripted programming for NBC Entertainment, said in a statement on Monday. “Congratulations to [executive producers] David Schulner, Peter Horton, our writers and an amazing cast and crew who have brought these stories to life.”

New Amsterdam also stars Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who) as oncologist Dr. Helen Sharpe, Janet Montgomery (Salem, This Is Us) as ER director Dr. Lauren Bloom, Jocko Sims (The Last Ship) as head of the brand new cardiac surgical department, Anupam Kher as neurology head Dr. Vijay Kapoor (Sense8) and Tyler Labine (Reaper) as everyone’s favorite TV psychologist Dr. Iggy Frome.
Congratulations to the cast and crew of New Amsterdam.
Be sure to catch every intense moment Tuesdays at 10/9c on NBC.
