Legends of Tomorrow Review: Legends of To-Meow-Meow (Season 4 Episode 8)
Legends of Tomorrow Season 4 Episode 8, “Legends of To-Meow-Meow,” gets wrapped up in time travel hijinx (no, but really).
When watching Legends of Tomorrow, it can often be crucial that you don’t look hard at the seams. It’s not an infallible masterpiece. It’s good, often great, but it’s a mistake to take it too seriously when the show itself most certainly does not.
It’s like watching a really good magic trick: Brilliant, but don’t think about what goes into it so much.

That’s important to remember for an episode that is aiming to be the wackiest version of itself that it can be in what is essentially a madcap alternate timeline/vignette outing.
Most, if not all, of these timelines are simply asking that you just go along for the ride. Is it mildly out of character that some of the characters would wholeheartedly be in favor of killing monsters without prejudice?
Not so much, but that doesn’t matter. We’re being silly and insane here and nothing is going to get in the way of that.
The stroll through these alternate timelines with Constantine, Charlie, and Zari Cat is a fun one, too, paying homage to — what looks like — the action television shows of the ’80’s, Charlie’s Angels most explicitly.

It is strange and out there, with so much of that Legends of Tomorrow charm still intact for the wild ride.
At its core, “Legends of To-Meow-Meow” try out some of the sillier ideas it has for an episode without necessarily devoting an entire episode to one of those ideas. It can give you just enough of one of these timelines to satisfy you and then you’re off again, which works a lot better than the alternative.
Normally this would be one of the episodes that play into the massive crossover that the other DC/CW shows take part in, but instead we have this and it actually pairs quite nicely with the kind of spirit of those episodes.
Here, instead of interacting with characters of other shows, it is able to stretch the boundaries of the episode, which fits in the spirit of the crossovers.

“Legends of To-Meow-Meow” is the kind of sci-fi episode that we’d expect from something akin to Star Trek, where it’s able to let loose and have the performers have a bit of fun in a role they don’t normally get to play. It feels less significant for Legends of Tomorrow, though, because this is the kind of tomfoolery that the show so often traffics in.
Some Stray Thoughts:
- Props to the cat they got to play Zari in this episode. Episode MPV.
- I like how Gideon has an actual physical body and it’s just never addressed.
- Is Zari and Charlie the secret ship of this season? I’ll let you be the judge of that.
- It was only a matter of time until someone on this show said “timey wimey.”
- “Indigo Girls is not a way of life!”
