Blindspot Review: Case: Sun, Moon, and the Truth (Season 4 Episode 7)

Blindspot, Reviews

Show of hands, who thought that robbing a bank whose main clientele was made up of terrorists was a good idea? Answer: Remi.

On Blindspot Season 4 Episode 7 “Case: Sun, Moon, and the Truth,” Remi sees some consequences for the actions she took in Blindspot Season 4 Episode 1, “Hella Duplicitous,” to fund her mission to break out Sheppard.

The big reveal set up at the end of Blindspot Season 4 Episode 6, “Ca-ca-Candidate for Cr-cr-Crime,” is cut short by a knock at the door and the most obvious babysitter story ever invented.

The thing about the scenario with Eve is that we have to buy that Remi didn’t think about the possibility of cameras in the vaults. It’s hard to buy that idea because Remi spent years in the shadows so how is that not one of the first things she’s on the lookout for?

Between that and the babysitter double-cross I’m starting to wonder how Jane and Kurt have made it through four seasons and still keep getting into danger.

So much of this set-up feels forced and conveniently timed, but it forces Kurt and Remi to stay in the same space. Using the stolen money is a nice tie-in that serves to dig Remi’s grave a little bit deeper, but the fact that they then have to infiltrate an FBI Evidence Facility the stakes are raised.

This episode also addresses something that I’ve long been saying, that Remi and Jane are two different people. The one thing about the Blindspot Season 4 storyline that I wasn’t buying was Remi’s anger at what Jane had become.

From everything we’ve heard over the seasons, everyone knew that Remi was going to lose her memory and become a blank slate. The way that she’s acting makes me think that there must have been a path to steer her back in the direction of Sandstorm. If that’s the case though, then why bother to wipe her memory?

If Remi succeeds in breaking Sheppard out of the black site I feel like we’ll have some answers to these questions, and I can’t wait until that happens.

Back at the New York Field Office, Rich Dotcom wants to get back to The Book of Secrets and a possible cure for Jane. Watching Rich and Patterson doggedly pursue the cure is funny and heartbreaking all at the same time.

It’s in moments like this that it’s easy to forget that they don’t know that Jane is Remi and that they must be crushed when they find out. This is good comic relief against the high-tension hostage situation happening and was really needed for the episode to feel balanced.

“Case: Sun, Moon, and Truth” is a pivotal episode. Jane’s secret’s out but there’s still characters who don’t know. The shift is going to be tumultuous, and it feels like it’s going to be a wild ride.

Stray Thoughts:

  • Random question, who pays for destruction to the FBI floor when a consultant attacks it with a pickaxe?
  • Rich Dotcom continues to be one of the best parts of Blindspot, and his working relationship with Patterson is really adding some dimension to the lab scenes. His fan film about ‘The Book of Secrets’ is so pure and sweet.
  • Madeline Burke is a very measured and calculated adversary this season, and I am looking forward to seeing where her plotline goes. There are many unknowns in her plan, and while I am not sure how they’re going to figure out how to pull off the plane crash scenario it feels like they’ll get there eventually.
  • And I am back to not trusting Weitz!
