The Good Place Review: Don’t Let The Good Life Pass You By (Season 3 Episode 8)
On The Good Place Season 3 Episode 8, “Don’t Let The Good Life Pass You By,” Eleanor and the rest of the gang try to relax for a bit in a bar to blow off some steam. Meanwhile, Janet and Michael spend their time interviewing Doug Forcett.
Michael is ecstatic because this is Doug Forcett, the idol that everyone talks about in the afterlife for having found out how the point systems work. But, it doesn’t take too long before Janet, and the crazy behavior, convince him that Doug is taking it overboard.
There’s a difference between doing something good because it makes you happy and brings you joy and doing something good for others only for the benefit. Doug isn’t living for himself, instead, he’s living his life as a joy giver to others, but leaves none for himself.

He eats only things he grows, which is basically radishes and leaks, and doesn’t even take water from others. Instead, Doug filters his own pee and serves it to his guest and himself. When you live to only give pleasure, but get no enjoyment out of it, you’re hurting yourself.
Doug is almost near panic attack mode all because he called Michael Mark and then lost it, even more, when he stepped on the snail. He’s only a few minor inconveniences away from having a complete meltdown.
It’s been a minute since the show has mentioned Doug, so I’m happy that they brought him back and brought him to life for us. I think that his take on the point system is how a lot of people would actually take it if it were real.

I know that if that was the actual case, I’d probably do like him until I had enough saved up to do some bad things. But, knowing my anxiety, I’d probably end up being just like Doug.
It’s been clear that Shawn would eventually catch up with them, but I hate that it has to happen just as Chidi is finally starting to relax and let off a little bit of steam. He’s wound so tight and needs to get some things off his mind for a bit before he goes crazy.
I like that Eleanor is confiding in Tahani and trying to see where she stands on the situation that she’s in with Chidi. It’s nice of Eleanor to ask about what she should do, but it’s obvious that she knew she was going to tell him all along. That’s something that she’d never be able to keep a secret for too long.

Janet being the badass to save the day doesn’t shock me, if anyone was tough enough to take on a bar full of demons it’s her. I can’t believe that she moves so quickly on the first hit and continues to go to town on the demons. Next time maybe they’ll think twice about messing with them.
But, one Janet versus a ton of demons can only last for so long before she can no longer go. That is a match that she wouldn’t win, which is why she takes her and the rest of the crew to her void.
There’s a high probability that something bad is going to happen to all of the humans inside Janet’s void, but I guess that’s better than being captured by demons and taken to hell for all eternity.
I can’t wait to see what happens after this two-week break.
