The Good Place Review: A Fractured Inheritance (Season 3 Episode 6)

Reviews, The Good Place

Eleanor finds her mother after learning that she faked her death and Tahani makes amends with her sister in hopes that it will help save her soul on The Good Place Season 3 Episode 6, “A Fractured Inheritance.”

“A Fractured Inheritance” is one of the sadder episodes of the season as we watch Eleanor figure out that her mother faked her own death and left her alone. Along with that, she’s now living a comfy life with a brand new family, including a new daughter.

Eleanor can make anything funny with her attitude and personality, but it doesn’t change the place of hurt it derives from. Her mother is a sore spot for her and it’s emotionally hurtful to have to watch someone who left you with nothing to be thriving and living well.

Even through all of it, Eleanor comes out on the other side and changes the way she acts towards her mother. While Eleanor is technically true about her mother still playing a con game, she never truly planned on leaving based on any ill will. The money being put back is only there for if something life-threatening happens and she has to skip town, but now it’s going to Patricia.

That’s one of my favorite touches to the end of the episode. After feeling so much jealousy and hatred towards Patricia for getting to grow up with the type of mother she wanted, Eleanor convinces Donna to spend all that money on Patricia and get her something amazing.

Eleanor is pushing her mother to be a better person and in the making, she’s changing her ways as well. I hope that we see Eleanor’s mother again this season, maybe sometime during the holidays. I think that would be nice for Eleanor’s storyline and character growth now that she’s made amends with her mother.

Meanwhile, Tahani shows up at Kamilah’s exhibit and decides to be the bigger person by apologizing and trying to take the higher road, but Kamilah doesn’t accept it in the beginning. It takes some convincing, but in the end, she finally accepts Tahani’s apology because she realizes that her art has always had Tahani in it, even if she doesn’t understand it.

I can’t wait to see what happens in next week’s episode now that Michael has let Eleanor know about the past relationships between her and Chidi. I think this is going to set Eleanor off because she’s already felt feelings for him and being told this information basically confirms that he is her soulmate.

Eleanor is about to dive off the deep end because I’m sure Michael will tell her not to tell Chidi about it.
