11 Characters We Love from ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ and 4 We Love to Hate

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Lists

If you spent your Halloween the way we did, you’ve been binge-watching (and maybe even re-watching!) Netflix’s spooky new series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina over the course of the past week or so.

We fell in love with characters both new and old — and if we’re being honest, there were also a handful we just couldn’t stand.

Here’s our list of characters we love and those we love to hate from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Let us know if your favorites (or least favorites) made the list in the comments below!

1. Sabrina Spellman

The witch of the hour herself is easily one of the best parts of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. She stole all our hearts in this magical coming-of-age story.

Sabrina is so compelling, and her journey to find a balance between two major parts of her identity is relatable to anyone trying to find their place in the world.

Sabrina: My name is Sabrina Spellman, and I will not sign it away.

Her fierce love for her friends and family, her desire to control her own fate, and her passion for finding the best solution for everyone all make her one of our favorite pop culture witches ever.

2. Ambrose Spellman

Ambrose is a new character to fans of the original Sabrina the Teenage Witch, but he is a welcome addition to the Spellman family.

Hilarious, intelligent, and pansexual, Ambrose delights viewers as he helps guide Sabrina through this transition in her life, while also yearning for his own place in the world beyond his house arrest imprisonment after attempting to blow up the Vatican.

His heart of gold and seemingly infinite wisdom earn Sabrina’s cousin a top spot on this list. More of Ambrose in Season 2, please!

3. Prudence Night

tumblr_phc5g66WeX1xiu39no5_540

Prudence is cast as a bully and villain for much of Season 1 of Chilling Adventures of SabrinaDespite that, she quickly becomes one of the most interesting characters on the show. And one we are particularly excited to see more of on Season 2.

Raised entirely in the witchy shadows of Greendale, Prudence has had a vastly different experience growing up compared to Sabrina’s life in the mortal world. For that reason, she’s a perfect foil for the show’s title character.

Prudence becomes more dynamic as the season goes on, and we see her become more nuanced and complex as she learns about the mortal world. She offers an interesting counter-perspective to Sabrina’s relatively naive and happy-go-lucky point of view, and you can’t help but adore her by the end of Season 1.

4. Harvey Kinkle

As someone who could take or leave the original Harvey Kinkle, the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina version of the character steals our hearts surprisingly fast. Harvey is by no means a complicated character; in fact, he might be the purest person on this entire season.

Sabrina: Really? You’d give up flying?
Harvey: There’s no flying in my life without you, Sabrina Spellman.

Harvey loves Sabrina with his whole heart. He’s a soft nerd with big dreams beyond Greendale, and he just wants all of his friends to be safe and happy. We love you too, Harvey Kinkle.

5. Madam Satan/Mary Wardwell

Mary Wardwell is hardly a split character, given that the teacher is murdered and body-snatched within the first episode of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. But Madam Satan is one of the best villains we’ve seen in a long time.

The demoness definitely has ulterior motives when it comes to Sabrina, but she still gives the young witch a lot of surprisingly solid advice.

Madam Satan: When will the world learn? Women should be in charge of everything.

Hopefully, Madam Satan takes her own advice in Season 2 and usurps the Dark Lord, snatching the throne for herself.

6. Zelda Spellman

It takes a minute to warm to this version of Zelda Spellman, but damn if she doesn’t have one of the best arcs through Season 1 of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Zelda is definitely the sterner of Sabrina’s Aunties. But beneath her devotion to the Dark Lord and her harsh exterior, she cares for Sabrina (and most magical children) with a surprising depth of emotion.

Sabrina: I’m not strong enough.
Zelda: Yes, you are.

By the time she literally steals a baby during the finale, Zelda has become one of the characters we can’t help but love.

7. Hilda Spellman

This version of Hilda is immediately endearing. Her great capacity for love and her kind, gentle spirit makes her an instant favorite.

As a counterpoint to her sister Zelda, Hilda’s soft exterior masks her fiercely protective nature. She will do whatever it takes to protect Sabrina, her friends, and the town of Greendale.

Hilda is the Auntie that you’d like to grab a coffee with — and conveniently, you can find her at Dr. Cerberus’ Books and Spirits, the local Greendale coffee shop!

8. Rosalind Walker

Roz is one of Sabrina’s best friends and one of the brightest students at Baxter High. She’s passionate about social justice, and she runs half the clubs at school, fighting for feminism and educational freedom. Roz may be losing her vision, but she’s gaining a clairvoyance that is passed on through the women in her family.

Seeing her come into her own as she develops her “Cunning” is one of the Season 2 threads we’re most looking forward to, especially now that she doesn’t have her beloved grandma to guide her. We can’t wait to see what’s next in the cards for Roz!

9. Susie Putnam

tumblr_phasi3Ue5x1x20wxqo2_540

Susie Putnam is Greendale’s tiny, non-binary, badass, and we would fight anyone who thinks it’s okay to bully them for being different. Even though Susie is pretty good at taking on their bullies all on their own.

Greendale has an extremely small town vibe, and many of its inhabitants aren’t very accepting of someone like Susie. But with the love of friends (and advice from the ghost of a gender non-conforming ancestor), Susie gains confidence and the support system they deserve.

10. Nick Scratch

tumblr_phdypwurDE1v64hizo6_540

Nick Scratch could have just been your run of the mill “bad boy.” But his soft spot for Sabrina and the way he makes his interest in her clear (without ever crossing any lines she doesn’t consent to) sets him apart as an interesting and refreshing take on the “other guy in a love triangle” trope.

There are theories that Nick is actually the Dark Lord in disguise, and that would definitely change how we feel about him. But for now, we just love this handsome devil.

11. Salem

tumblr_phdsw9XRNI1v1jzoxo7_540

This version of Salem doesn’t say much, but what he lacks in sass and sarcasm he more than makes up for in his incredible protection of Sabrina.

He doesn’t only keep Sabrina safe from zombies and ghouls determined to creep up on the young witch. He also comforts her through being hazed at the Academy of Unseen Arts. He’s a very good boy indeed.
