Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Previews

Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina premieres this week, just in time for a spooky Halloween binge watch.

The haunting reimagining of the 90’s sitcom Sabrina the Teenage Witch takes Sabrina Spellman on a much darker path than the original television series and borrows more of its thematic elements from the comic series of the same name as the new show.

The comic began its run in 2014 at Archie Horror, an imprint of Archie Comics, and is written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Series Developer, Executive Producer, and Writer for both Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Fans of the original series will still find enough nostalgia on the new show, as Sabrina is accompanied by some familiar characters, including her aunts Hilda and Zelda (Lucy Davis and Miranda Otto), her boyfriend Harvey Kinkle (Ross Lynch), and even her feline companion, Salem Saberhagen.

New characters include Ambrose Spellman (Chance Perdomo) Sabrina’s pansexual cousin, Madam Satan, played by Doctor Who alum Michelle Gomez, and Prudence (Tati Gabrielle) a young witch with a grudge against Sabrina.

Run by the same creative team Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was originally set to be a companion series to the CW drama, Riverdale. While the networks have said there are no current plans for a crossover, fans shouldn’t rule out the possibility entirely.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is set in Greendale, a town quite familiar to Riverdale fans, and has the same “out of time” aspect that allows the audience to feel as if the show could be happening now or in the 1960’s at any given moment.

Sabrina will have to find a balance between her life as a witch and her life as a mortal teenager, all while taking on the terrifying forces of evil threatening everyone she loves and the world as she knows it.
