Younger Review: Honk if You’re Horny (Season 5 Episode 9)

Reviews, Younger

We may be torn between #TeamCharles and #TeamJosh, but the real relationship at the heart of this show is the one between Liza and Kelsey, and Younger Season 5 Episode 9, “Honk if You’re Horny,” highlights that perfectly.

This isn’t the first time that one of Liza’s lies has caused friction between her and Kelsey, but it’s the first time that Kelsey has dabbled in using it against Liza.

Part of the increasing problem with Liza’s penchant for giant secrets is that she has to keep lying to cover them up.

Usually, Liza’s web of lies is fairly harmless but this time it comes back to hurt her best friend. Kelsey is good at covering for Liza, but she shouldn’t have to do it all the time. And she shouldn’t have to, especially when Liza’s lies effect their work.

I do however feel like Kelsey goes a bridge too far by threatening Charles and Liza. Her pain and frustration are understandable. She’s hurt and she makes that choice in anger, but it’s not a good look for Kelsey if it’s something that she was to start doing regularly.

We all do things in the heat of the moment, but thankfully by the end of “Honk if You’re Horny,” Kelsey sees that no matter what else is going on in Liza’s personal life and what mistakes she makes, their friendship matters more than all of it.

Liza: If you are asking me to choose between the two of you, I choose you.

I love the sexy drama of Younger it’s entertaining, juicy, and so much fun, but the friendship between Kelsey and Liza stands out above all of their romantic relationships. These two women have seen each other through thick and thin and the way they keep coming back to each other, lifting each other up, and taking over the world is endlessly heartwarming.

Kelsey: A partnership like ours is rare and sometimes challenging, but we never stand in each others way personally or perfessionaly because we know that we are better together.

Charles and Liza are still enjoying their bubble of happiness, but they’re quickly running into all of the problems that come with a secret relationship.

It’s so wonderful to see these two being domestic and soft with each other after yearning for this relationship for 5 Seasons. They’re happy and most importantly they’re real with each other, within the confines of their relationship they’re being completely honest and it’s beautiful to watch.

But outside of that relationship, they’re lying to everyone around them.

Naturally, the ramifications of the two of them being together could be a disaster for Empirical. They have to tread lightly and even telling Kelsey nearly backfires.

Both Charles and Liza are impatient to be together and do all of the things that regular couples do, but while they have to hide their relationship that’s impossible. Will they be able to navigate the truth in a way that allows them to be together outside of “The Bubble” or will it burst and leave them both to be dropped on the ground?

One relationship that I did not see coming this season on Younger is the one between Lauren and Diana, but now that it’s here I cannot get enough.

Diana: I like you but I don’t need you.

Diana isn’t an easy woman to impress, but Lauren isn’t a woman that takes no for an answer. I love seeing these two strong personalities connect and I’m so thrilled by how quickly Lauren is able to win over Diana. I hope we see more of these two in the future.

OTHER THOUGHTS:

  • Laura Benanti as powerhouse Quinn Tyler is absolutely amazing, I want to see a lot more of her.
  • Enzo and Diana are really darn cute. They just keep falling more in love in spite of all the ways in which they’re different, I hope they never stop.
