Killjoys Review: What to Expect When You’re Expecting…An Alien Parasite (Season 4 Episode 4)

Killjoys, Reviews

On Killjoys Season 4 Episode 4, “What to Expect When You’re Expecting…An Alien Parasite,” our Johnny finally returns to us. FINALLY!

Timing-wise, this is handled nicely. Hullen!Johnny had just outworn his welcome, but he stuck around long enough to interact with Dutch, which was cool to see.

It would have been a shame if Johnny had been cleansed before Dutch returned. There’s too much tension there to play with. Has anyone else missed Johnny and his loveable self?

Hullen!Johnny: Do you know what its like to be caught in between? Why I can’t stand looking at your beautiful damn face anymore? Because it hurts. My heart, it keeps switching from Hullen to human, and I keep losing you, both of you, over and over again, and I don’t even care which one I am anymore, but I can’t live in between.

It looks like we’ve got an uphill, probably un-winnable, battle ahead of us.

Dutch’s reveal of the future doesn’t instill a lot of hope, but Team Awesome Force is used to fighting un-winnable battles. Plus, if Dutch came out of the green with a clear plan on how to defeat The Lady, it would have felt too easy.

The team has to earn it, and seeing as how they are up against insane odds and don’t even know what trick Khlyen stored up Dutch’s sleeve, I’d say we’re going to witness them earning their victory over The Lady.

Team Awesome Force has a lot of work to do, and no clear place to start.

The question is, is the reason Khylen wants Dutch to find Johnny is so she can prevent him from killing everyone, as The Lady’s vision shows?

It’s quite a coincidence that Dutch’s mission is to find Johnny, and he’s also the bad guy in The Lady’s vision. Of course, the fact that Johnny doesn’t know who Johnny is in that vision is curious.

D’av: Do you want to hold my hand or?

Delle Seyah: Not unless you want to lose it!

D’av: I just know this can be a difficult time.

Delle Seyah: Can someone give him drugs, please!

Either Johnny had his memory hardcore wiped or that’s not actually Johnny in the vision. Yeah, this is all a touch confusing.

Right now, we have snippets of information, but we can’t fully process it. We’re more curious than confused, which is a good thing.

As long as Killjoys keeps giving us answers, we can live with some unanswered questions (for the time being). We can’t ever reach the point where we keep getting more and more questions without any answers.

Do you have any theories on what The Lady’s vision means?

Perhaps D’av and Aneela’s baby has something to do with it. Between Zeph’s comments about the baby’s size and Delle Seyah’s intel on how Aneela was inadvertently doing this experiment for The Lady, the kid has to play a big role in all of this.

Speaking of The Lady, we finally catch a glimpse of her…sort of.

The Lady: Well done, you. It’s been such a long time since I was surprised. I admit, you surprise me.

Dutch: Compliment not accepted, you creepy stalker!

She’s a shapeshifter, so her true identity or form is still unknown, as is what exactly she is. Still, it’s great to finally meet her and see what all the fuss is about.

Dutch’s time in the green is beyond trippy. The fact that they are flashbacks sprinkled throughout the hour makes them even trippier because you never know where you are going to get dropped in.

Dutch always seems to fall down in the same spot and have a cloaked figure approach her. You never know whether or not it’s going to be The Lady as someone else or, at the end, actually Aneela.

The Lady’s ability to take someone else’s form is trippy in and of itself, so it makes sense that these memories would be disorienting as well.

Delle Seyah being in labor provides us with much-needed comedy throughout the hour. Every scene she is in is absolute gold, especially if she is bickering with Pree.

She better stick around for a while because I don’t think I can part with her. Plus, we need all the awkward D’av and Delle Seyah parenting moments!
