Killjoys Review: O Mother, Where Art Thou? (Season 4 Episode 7)
On Killjoys Season 4 Episode 7, “O Mother, Where Art Thou?,” Killjoys continues to prove that it knows how to handle flashbacks.
The flashbacks to Khlyen and Yalena answer the question of why Khlyen put that pulsar in Dutch’s head. How he did that, however, is still to be determined. The man has skills.
Not only do the flashbacks give us a way to defeat The Lady, but it gives us insight into Khlyen’s life. We finally meet his ex-wife, Yalena, who is Aneela’s mother.

So what does that make her to Dutch? Killjoys has the market on crazy family trees, that’s for sure.
As Yalena mentions, she knew a different version of Khlyen, and it’s so fascinating to spend time with him through the flashbacks.
The flashback also reveals more about how Aneela went mad and just how long she’s been hearing The Lady. It’s a compelling history lesson, and it is a great reminder that this battle has been going on for hundreds of years.

250 years ago, Khlyen was willing to die to stop The Lady. It’s hard to say if he made the right call in waiting and trying to save Aneela.
Speaking of which, Dutch is going to have to make Aneela human again before using the weapon; otherwise, Aneela will die.
Aneela sacrificing herself to destroy The Lady is definitely a likely outcome, but, gods, will it be painful to witness. Aneela and Delle Seyah deserve to be happy together!
It would, however, be a nice redemption moment for Aneela. Hopefully, Dutch can keep her word and save Aneela.
Dutch: He doesn’t want me around his kid. He thinks I’m too damaged.
Johnny: Who isn’t?
Dutch: Well, apparently, I’m the kind of damage that you have to contain.
Johnny: Dutch.
Dutch: No, I don’t need you to make me feel better. I just need you to move on. Can you do that?
It’s a relief that D’av and Jaq don’t make an appearance during “O Mother, Where Art Thou?” because the focus really needs to be on Dutch.
She has a lot to work through right now, and by keeping D’av and Jaq out of the hour, they don’t take away any of our focus. We get to watch Dutch process D’av’s words to her and come to terms with them and everything she’s been through recently.
Johnny is there to support her like he always does, but aside from a couple of questions, Johnny thankfully doesn’t push.
Yalena: Are you happy?
Dutch: I’m fine. There are more important things in the middle of a war where everything might end.
Yalena: Anger is good until it hurts you more than it heals you, and when you are ready, I hope you choose to let yours go.
It’s very much a Dutch-centric hour. Yalena even helps her view Khlyen in a different way, as well as offering her some advice that Dutch will hopefully take to heart.
However, it’s a little sad that the torture session isn’t mentioned because Dutch did cross the line there, and she needs to re-evaluate her boundaries when it comes to training Jaq.
Meanwhile, Pree and Gared uncover what’s going on at the RAC. The Lady is a crafty one, that’s for sure.
Gared: He’s taking off his earrings. You have no idea how much shit you’re in, but it’s a lot.
Turin and Pree’s banter adds some levity to the hour. They really need to interact more often. We are being deprived of so much joy.
