20 TV Characters Who Really Need a Hug
11. Elizabeth Thornton – When Calls the Heart

They say things happen in threes. Does this apply to two great things and a tragedy all within a one month span? If so, then Elizabeth Thornton, nee Thatcher, is a sad example of its truth.
After years of waiting, Elizabeth finally gets to marry the love of her life. Then a day later has to wish him well as he travels to train other Mounties.
A few weeks later, she gets the news that her new husband sacrificed himself for the well being of others. Only to find out a few weeks after that she is pregnant with their child.
Jack, can you give your woman some love from the beyond? She really could use it.
12. Eliot Waugh – The Magicians

Even royal magicians aren’t immune to the harsh realities of living. Eliot will be the first to tell you that living and loving suck ass before handing you a glass of wine to drink it all away.
From the beginning, Eliot comes off as someone who can’t be touched or devastated. Only to have that wall come crashing down the first time he gets betrayed by someone he loves.
At that point moving forward the young magician proves that strength comes from pain. After all, he once told his close, and dear friend Quentin, “Funny little irony they don’t tell you, magic doesn’t come from talent. It comes from pain.”
Next time we see him we should give him a big hug — or maybe we should wait for the monster to leave him first.
13. Meredith Grey – Grey’s Anatomy

While this pick is a bit questionable, for me, just hold tight while I fully explain. I am a fan of Grey’s Anatomy but not of Meredith Grey.
Most of the time she annoys me. However, that doesn’t erase the fact that the girl has gone through so much freaking tragedy it’s a miracle she’s still standing let alone performing surgeries.
I mean the only family she has left is her children (her father doesn’t count because they don’t have a relationship) and her half-sister, Maggie. Talk about a treacherous path this young doctor has had to walk.
So despite it all, you can’t help feeling sympathy for her after everything she’s experienced: a shooting, a plane crash, her mom dying, almost drowning, her husband’s death, etc.
14. Sam Winchester – Supernatural

If you don’t know everything this man has been through in the past 13 seasons of Supernatural, prepare for a crash course.
He has lost everyone he has ever loved, even his own brother Dean a few times, and then some. He’s been to hell and even housed the devil for a time — not to mention, countless other smaller experiences that break your heart.
A good case could be made for Dean as well, but he at least has relationships that are meaningful. Sam only has Dean and somewhat by default Cas.
All he wants is his mother’s love and someone he can willingly share “the life” with.
15. Carol Peletier – The Walking Dead

Like the majority of the females on this list, Carol is a badass who takes no prisoners. She went from meek, abused housewife to badass real quick in the forthcoming zombie apocalypse.
Her experiences in the world overrun by zombies has made her so tough none of the males around her even question her abilities anymore. In fact, many of them turn to her for protection or game plan tactics.
She never wants to take a break from surviving to hug and show emotion, which is exactly why she deserves it the most. After everything she’s seen and done, she’s become hardened.
16. Willow Rosenberg – Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Guilt will eat you alive and never go away. No one knows that better than Sunnydale’s resident witch, Willow.
She has so much to feel guilty about, and it shows in the paths she takes. After losing Buffy, Willow uses dark magic to bring her back. Then after losing Tara, Willow becomes consumed by the dark magic.
Willow is such a sensitive character that she feels things more strongly than others. So every tragedy she endures it hurts her so strongly that the only way out is darkness.
Once she comes out of the darkness, she feels guilty about that so she becomes consumed with making amends for it. Willow needs someone to tell her she can relax a little, everything is okay.
17. Juice Ortiz – Sons of Anarchy

In a gang of outlaw bikers, it can sometimes be hard to see the purity in someone’s soul. Which is why the entire time Juice is with SAMCRO his good intentions are overlooked.
Juice does some pretty reprehensible things in his life, but at the heart of it, he just wants to belong. He is always the outsider looking in unless he is a part of SAMCRO.
When that family is threatened he freaks and does anything to stay in their favor, even if that means selling club secrets to keep his own lineage under wraps. This leads him down the road of the ultimate sacrifice for his brothers.
I’m aware that Juice gave up his life in the end, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to still hug him tight.
18. Laurel Castillo – How To Get Away With Murder

Laurel just wanted to be a kickass lawyer and show her dad that he doesn’t own her. That’s all.
Then she gets involved in the murder of her professor’s husband, the death of her fellow student, and the exposure of her father’s illegal actions.
As a result, she gets stripped of her custody of her son and is deemed mentally unstable. I mean, would you be calm and collected if you’d seen all that she has? Cut her a break guys!
19. Henry Deaver – Castle Rock

We still haven’t seen the whole of Henry’s story, but from what we do know, he is deserving of one ginormous hug.
Back in 1991, Henry went missing and when he was found, 11 days later, the town accused him of causing his father’s death. There is quite a bit of mystery behind it all.
These accusations ran him out of town for many years, until he returns to help investigate the strange happenings at Shawshank Prison. He just wants to prove to the whole world that he has nothing but good and love in his heart.
20. William Clayton – Arrow

They say that superheroes have tortured pasts. What about the children of superheroes?
William is the son of Oliver Queen, aka Green Arrow. In his young life, William has seen many sorrows and suffered torturous pain at the hands of his father’s enemies.
William not only has to deal with the death of his mother but then has to move in with a father he barely knows. Now, even that life may be in danger of falling apart.
He clearly gets plenty of love from his father and step-mother. However, he still constantly looks like he desperately needs a hug.

Yes agree with you and thanks for articulating the problems with whole weird Bryan backstory. You know what really bothered me about this episode? Having Muriel sit on an office chair placed on a box ( plinth) – is this is kid’s theater-? And then leaving her there for whole episode! Wow – Did no one think this through? Shouldn’t that spooky Debris infected person be perfect time for big visual drama and effects? What the viewers get is a random woman seated on an office chair mumbling. Gee somehow that visual isn’t grabbing me.
