Young & Hungry Review: Young & Mexico Part 1 & 2 (Season 5B Episode 5 & 6)
Sofia’s romantic life takes new leaps when Gabi forgets Sofia’s birthday on Young & Hungry Season 5B Episode 5 & 6, “Young & Mexico, Part 1 & 2.”
Gabi is a loving person and loves to give her attention wholeheartedly, but she doesn’t know how to maintain it with multiple people at once. Now that Gabi and Josh are all over each other all of the time Sofia has been slipping Gabi’s mind so much that she actually forgets her birthday. Granted, Gabi also forgets Josh’s eye surgery, but that’s different.
Yes, Gabi does try and make it up to Sofia, but in all reality, it’s ridiculous to forget your best friend/roommates birthday all because you have a boyfriend now. What makes the whole situation even worse is Josh isn’t some new man in Gabi’s life.

Gabi and Josh have been around and dated each other before so it’s not like it’s a brand new puppy love and you’re figuring everything about each other out. No, that’s been done already which is why they have a good connection. But, it’s not an excuse to just magically forget the people around you for your significant other.
In all fairness, Gabi has been a rude best friend to Sofia for a good minute and she should be working towards making it up to her. While she doesn’t do it the way she intends to, Gabi ends up getting Sofia a pretty nice makeup present.
Who doesn’t dream of going on vacation and getting a bae? Sofia is living the dream, until the dream, Juan Carlos, surprises her back in the US. All seems to be going well for Sofia and Juan Carlos until they both realize that neither is how they perceived.

Vacation Sofia is wild, fun, and likes to do whatever, meanwhile regular Sofia is clean, strict, and not as wild. Sofia knows that she wanted Juan Carlos while she was in Mexico, but now that she’s back home, Nick, the immigration lawyer, keeps creeping his way into her life after one night.
I don’t necessarily like the way that Nick acts, but I can’t wait to see how everything plays out between the two. Once Sofia gets a boyfriend I think that there’s a possibility of her and Gabi hanging out more by doing double dates because that’s how they are.
Elliot and Yolanda deserve their own spin-off where we see the two living together for some odd reason because I would watch that show all of the time. It’d be a guaranteed hit with Kym Whitley and Rex Lee.

REX LEE, KYM WHITLEY
Elliot and Yolanda’s relationship is one of my absolute favorites because it feels so natural and real. You can tell that they do care for each other, but roasting each other and being shady on a daily basis is a normal thing for them.
Yolanda falling in love with a man just off the noises he can make with his fingers is something we have in common. Any man who can play something that beautifully automatically gets some small love from me.
The comedy this season is top tier, but I wish that some of the dynamics between Sofia and Gabi would change. I don’t want Gabi gone, but I do want more precise storylines for other characters.

Other Thoughts:
- Gabi trying to smuggle Juan Carlos over the border is one of the funniest things. She truly needs to start thinking her plans through better.
- Gabi is lucky that in the end Sofia and Nick ended up together because she still never told him about accepting the date originally for herself. Even if it was to help Sofia she still didn’t tell him on purpose.
- Yolanda and Elliot having sex dreams about each other over a piano is hysterical.
