Preview — The 100 Season 5 Episode 9: Sic Semper Tyrannis
After the season’s final mini-hiatus, The 100 returns at a new time on, Tuesday at 8/7c with Season 5 Episode 9 “Sic Semper Tyrannis.”
Written by Miranda Kwok and directed by Ian Samoil, “Sic Semper Tyrannis” brings both Wonkru and the Eligius camp in Eden to a boiling point as both groups face lethal threats to their leadership.
The term “Sic Semper Tyrannis” is a Latin phrase that translates to “thus always to tyrants.” The phrase is associated with the assassinations of Julius Ceasar, and Abraham Lincoln, as well as political bombings, and US Navy war vessels. With this in mind, concern for both Octavia and Diyoza is high.
In a shocking turn of events on The 100 Season 5 Episode 8 “How We Get to Peace,” Octavia sentenced Clarke to death, and Bellamy had no other option but to put Blodreina in a coma in order to save everyone that he loves, including Octavia herself.
With Octavia temporarily out of commission, things at the bunker could go in any number of directions. And as you can see in the episode trailer below, there’s a lot going on. Seemingly loyal to the throne, Jackson and Niylah are working hard to keep Octavia alive.
But both Clarke and Gaia pose significant threats to both Blodreina’s power and her life.
Bellamy: This is how we save my friends.
Will Wonkru still hold Clarke prisoner while Octavia is uconcious? Will Bellamy and Madi team up to set her free? What will happen when Clarke finds out what Bellamy did?
When she gets out, it appears that Clarke hasn’t quite let go of her plan to just flat out kill Octavia. With promotional images for future episodes showing Clarke and Madi back in Eden, and Octavia alive and well, I’ve got more questions than answers about how everything will go down on “Sic Semper Tyrannis.”
Meanwhile, Gaia still has the flame and though she swore to remain loyal to Octavia until her death, will she jump the gun on installing the next commander as Octavia reaches her weakest state?
Indra remains in control of Wonkru’s army, which means that hopefully, Wonkru’s plan to use biological warfare is no longer in effect, or at least it’s been postponed.
Will Clarke make an attempt on Octavia’s life? Will Bellamy leave for Eden with Clarke and Madi or stay behind with his sister, and Monty and Harper? What choices will Gaia and Indra make while Octavia is vulnerable?
Meanwhile, back in Eden, McCreary’s return to camp, with the knowledge that Diyoza left him for dead, can only mean trouble.
Now, Murphy has a history of arson, but whether the fire he’s accredited with starting in the description for “Sic Semper Tyrannis” is literal or figurative remains to be seen. Either option could lead to catastrophe for all that remains of the human race.
Half Spacekru is reunited and the Eligius prisoners are on the brink of a civil war, will Murphy be the one to throw the match and send McCreary and his men after Diyoza? Or will he literally start a fire in only place untouched by Praimfaya?
Diyoza plans to keep the cure Abby found on The 100 Season 5 Episode 8 “How We Get to Peace” a secret from McCreary and the other prisoners while he threatens her power, but I sure hope she has some other tricks up her sleeve as well.
McCreary’s been pretty dead set on getting that cure and these promotional images have me afraid of what he might do to get it.
Will McCreary hold Abby hostage and demand a cure? Will Abby finally choose to give up the pills and fight back? Will Spacekru slip their collars and make a break for it once the camp is at war with itself? How will Diyoza maintain her fragile grasp on power? And where is Kane during all this?
Tune in Tuesday at 8/7c to find out and in the meantime, check out the photos and promo video below for a preview!
