Take Two Season 1 Episode 1 5 Reasons to Watch ABC’s ‘Take Two’

5 Reasons to Watch ABC’s ‘Take Two’

Lists, Previews, Take Two

If you haven’t heard of Take Two, don’t worry, you’re not alone.

The series from Castle creators and executive producers Terri Edda Miller and Andrew W. Marlowe hasn’t been promoted all that well (read: not at all), which is an absolute shame. It’s nonstop fun, and it definitely deserves a spot on your summer watchlist.

Series descriptionTake Two follows Sam Swift (Rachel Bilson), the former star of a hit cop series whose epic breakdown is broadcast to the public and sends her to rehab. Desperate to restart her career, she talks her way into shadowing lone-wolf private investigator Eddie Valetik (Eddie Cibrian) as research for a potential comeback role. Though Eddie resents the babysitting gig, high-spirited Sam uses the skills she learned as an actor playing a cop and proves herself to be surprisingly valuable.

After screening the first two episodes, we’ve put together a list of 5 reasons why Take Two is a summer must watch.

1. Rachel Bilson
Take Two Season 1 Episode 1
TAKE TWO – “Episode 101” – ABC/David Bukach

Oh, how we’ve missed seeing Rachel Bilson on our screens.

Bilson’s character Sam Swift is down on her luck when we first meet her. She’s definitely had better days, and she’s determined to make a comeback.

Bilson makes it impossible not to fall in love with Sam and cheer her on as she tries to take back her career and prove to Eddie that she’s an asset.

2. Sam & Eddie
Take Two Season 1 Episode 1
TAKE TWO – “Episode 101” – ABC/David Bukach

It doesn’t take long to fall in love with these two.

From the moment they meet, there’s banter. Oh, and chemistry, lots of chemistry.

It’s not hard to tell that Take Two is from the minds that brought us Castle. The dynamic between Sam and Eddie is reminiscent of Beckett and Castle, but this is by no means Castle 2.0.

Eddie’s much more serious whereas Sam’s constantly putting things in terms of television dramas with voiceovers and referencing the way cases were solved on her very popular (and now canceled) television show. Did you know that you can’t actually enhance photos?!

At the end of the day, Sam and Eddie make a damn good team, and you’ll find yourself impatiently waiting for the next chance to ride along with them as they work a case.

3. Pure Fun
Take Two Season 1 Episode 1
TAKE TWO – “Episode 101” – ABC/David Bukach

When you have an actress playing private eye with an actual, grumpy private eye, how could it not be fun?

Don’t get it wrong though, Sam is actually pretty good at investigating, much to even her own surprise.

Take Two is not a super serious procedural. It knows how to have a good time, which makes it the perfect thing to watch during summer.

If you’re looking for a show that will make you smile and laugh while throwing some action scenes at you, look no further!

4. Private Eyes, They’re Watching You
Take Two Season 1 Episode 1
TAKE TWO – “Episode 101” – ABC/David Bukach

Private eyes definitely have more fun than cops, something that Psych proved a while ago. However, Eddie’s definitely a lot more serious than Shawn Spencer, but it’s not like Shawn set the bar all that high.

Private eyes have a bit more leeway since they aren’t officers of the law. They can break into someone’s apartment without needing a warrant or a cry for help. They also take on a variety of cases.

This helps Take Two stand out from the procedural crowd. It feels fresh.

There are still cases to solve and injustices to right, but Eddie and Sam operate differently. The case doesn’t need to start with a body turning up; in fact, there might not even be a murder at all.

5. Supporting Cast
Take Two Season 1 Episode 1

Did you know that Jordan Gavaris is in this?! We didn’t either until he popped up on screen.

He’s delightful as are the other supporting characters that round out the show. They all add some more humor to the mix.

So far, there are two standout supporting characters in our book.

The first is, obviously, Mick English, who is played by Gavaris. He’s a medical examiner and a huge fan of Sam’s. He’s starstruck and completely adorable.

The second is Burto who works with Eddie. We’re hoping he gets a touch more screen time, but so far, he never fails to brighten up a scene.

Allison is in a love affair with television that doesn't seem to be letting up anytime soon. Slightly damaged fictional characters are her weakness. She loves to spend her free time curled up with a cat and a show to binge-watch. Allison is a Tomatometer-approved critic (Rotten Tomatoes).
