Shadowhunters: Top Moments from ‘Familia Ante Omnia’ and ‘Erchomai’ (Season 3 Episode 9 and 10)
Lives are lost, families broken, and the dead resurrected on Shadowhunters Season 3 Episode 9, “Familia Ante Omnia,” and Episode 10, “Erchomai.”
Simon’s storyline with his family is a tearjerker, and I wish that he didn’t have to have it so bad. Clary is presumed dead, Jace never gets to see Clary after coming to, and Alec dies in Magnus’ arms.
Here are my top moments from “Familia Ante Omnia” and “Erchomai.”

Simon Lewis The Hero
Simon’s storyline is the most messed up and emotionally damaging. This boy has done nothing to deserve what Lilith and Heidi do to him.
The entire time that Heidi is idling around the kitchen I don’t understand why Simon doesn’t make a move to kill her. All he has to do is provoke her once, and that’s that. Instead of screaming at her and trying to make her emotional he should have been going at her head first so when she tries to defend herself she bursts to dust.
Simon’s mom’s reaction is downright horrible if we’re honest. That’s your son, and no matter what happens you’re supposed to be there to help him. It’s easy to see that Simon visibly wants no contact with the either of them because he knows he can’t control himself. But, that doesn’t stop Becky from trying to comfort him, ending up with her almost dying in Simon’s arms.
Simon is blaming himself for what happens to his sister, but there’s no way that there was anything else he could do. Izzy being his rock and comfort during this hard time is sweet. Ever since Simon became a vampire their relationship has blossomed into something magical.
The one thing that Simon wanted most in this world was to live a normal life and not have his family figure out what he is. Now to save his family, he has to convince his mother that he died.
It takes a lot for me actually to cry when watching a TV show, but damn did I tear up as Simon is killing himself to his mother. The one person in the world he loves most, and he has to remove himself from her life forever. It’s haunting.
No matter what, though, Simon must never forget that he is the one who single-handedly takes down Lilith and rids her from everyone’s lives.
I hate that he thinks he’s the one who kills Clary when in reality if she did die it would be from Lilith blowing up right next to her.

Jace’s Resurrection
Finally! Jace is free of Liliths control once and for all. It’s such a moving moment to see our Jace finally return from being possessed and using his angelic powers to make his way to Clary at the top of the building.
Jace is getting his life back, but at the price of Alec’s life and Clary’s life. Jace has to sit in the back of his mind and watch as his parabatai is murdered at his hands, and now the one person he wants to see most, Clary, is dead.
Jace’s storyline for Season 3B is going to be interesting. At the same time of having to deal with everything he did while he was possessed, he’s going to be searching day and night for Clary. It’s evident that Jace isn’t going to believe Clary’s death unless he sees some valid proof.
Not that I want to see Jace suffer any more than he already has, but before we see him on a mission to figure out if Clary is alive or not I want to see him mourn Alec. I want Jace to finally go and get help, without it he could easily lose his mind if he hasn’t lost it already.

Is Clary Dead?
I know that in the last moment of “Erchomai” we see Simon saying that he killed Clary, but I don’t think so. It’s logical for Simon to think that he is the one who kills Clary since he doesn’t get the chance to see Lilith blow up.
I don’t think that Clary is dead at all. I believe that something happened and she got transported to Edom along with Lilith and Jonathan. Jonathan and the glass container he’s in is gone as well after the explosion.
Either my theory is right, or Clary did die when Lilith blows up, and Jonathan went right along with her. I don’t think that’s how it’s going to play out, but you never know with this show.

Clary’s Abilities
Clary is one of the strongest shadowhunters there is with her ability to create new runes on the spot, and I wish that we had got to see more of it before her disappearance.
Clary’s ability to create new runes is brand new to everyone around her, herself included, so why haven’t we seen her practicing this? The more practice she does, the better at it she becomes, so why only try using it in dire times of need?
If Clary isn’t dead for real then maybe there’s a chance she can save Alec’s life by creating a new rune to help him.

Magnus Giving Up His Powers
Magnus releasing his powers on Jace the moment that Alec is dying is the worst thing that has come from this show in I don’t even remember when. I personally feel attacked having to watch Alec die in Magnus’ arms.
Magnus’s guilt for allowing Lilith to retake control of Jace is what fuels his motivation to get Jace back. I won’t say that’s all that’s powering it because he naturally has come to the point of liking Jace a lot, but it’s one of the main reasons.
I think that it’s honorable and shows Magnus’ true character that he goes head to head with the high warlock to try and get help to free Jace. To top that, Magnus trades all of his magic so he has enough power to bring back Jace for good. He willingly gives up his magic to save Jace’s life, and in return has to watch Alec’s life fade away. What a heartbreaking deal.
The kiss between Magnus and Alec right before Magnus goes to Edom is EVERYTHING. This couple is one that I genuinely care about, and they’ve come such a long way. I can’t help but shed a tear when they say “I love you” to one another because it’s evident that something is going to go wrong.

ANNA HOPKINS
Luke Dropping Everything
I’ve had my issues with Luke this season, but I think it’s incredible how he willingly drops his pack and his job all to find Clary and help break her free.
Not to put Luke down, but it’s probably for the best that he be free of the pack. He hasn’t been the best pack leader to them lately, and they deserve someone who’s going to be active in being their leader. Heck, Luke didn’t even know about Maia leaving town until his pack tells him.
I think that for Season 3B we’re going to see Luke working at the institute alongside everyone else now that he has no police job and no pack to go back to. Maybe he and Maryse will start working together.
Shadowhunters Season 3A has been a wild ride, and I can’t wait to see what Season 3B has in store for us.
Other Thoughts:
- Now that Ollie is back to her real life maybe she’ll take Luke’s advice and get out of town and stop interfering in supernatural world messes.
- I’m hoping that Alec didn’t actually die and we’re just left with him fighting for his life. But, I don’t get good vibes.
- I like that Valentine isn’t even in hell when he’s dead. He’s so evil that he’s surrounded by nothing but darkness and shadows, as he deserves. I’m glad that Clary is the one who gets to kill him, again.
- Becky is a good sister to Simon, and I’m glad that she chooses to keep her memories of him as a vampire. Hopefully, we get to see more of her next season. Simon needs his family.
