Lethal Weapon Review: Family Ties (Season 2 Episode 21)
On Lethal Weapon Season 2 Episode 21, “Family Ties,” Riggs’ family life manages to get even more complicated. Seriously, who would have thought it was possible?
It’s not surprising that Nathan Riggs fathered a son that Riggs knew nothing about. They two of them aren’t exactly close.
Murtaugh: You mean there might be two of them?
This is definitely a twist, and you can tell it punches Riggs right in the gut.
Personally, I hope Nathan orchestrated this entire thing. It makes him devious, and it shows that he isn’t someone to trifle with. He’s more interesting this way.

It’s hard to trust Nathan or believe that his motives are indeed pure. Instead of doing the wishy-washy, “is he reformed?” debate, let’s keep him a bad guy. It’s probably not the best for Riggs’ therapy and overall healing, but entertainment-wise, it would be better.
Nathan Riggs isn’t someone that we’re all that compelled to care about, and it’s not like we have a stake in watching him get his life together. Redemption storylines work best when at least one of those two things is true.
Nathan just needs to stay far away from Riggs, and everything will be good. What do you think? Do you think Nathan is reformed or is he still scheming?

Please tell me Avery isn’t actually leaving.
He’s a great captain, and it’s always fun watching him attempt to rein in Murtaugh and Riggs. He rarely is able to actually get them under control, but it’s fun watching him try.
This isn’t the best introduction to Murtaugh potentially being captain.

He doesn’t seem to take this promotion as interim captain seriously. Sure, he requisitions a bunch of badass weapons and cars, but he lets his excitement over all the perks take over. It’s all he is focused on.
The case is solved, and Lisa is brought home safely at the end of the day, but if we, and Murtaugh, are going to entertain this notion of him becoming captain, we need to see him take it a bit more seriously.
Riggs: Yeah but he’s captain, so we can do whatever we want.
Murtaugh: You acknowledged I’m captain.
Riggs: As long as I can do whatever I want.
Murtaugh takes solving the case seriously, but that’s a testament to Detective Murtaugh, not Captain Murtaugh.
It would be great to see Murtaugh take the job. This is too big of an opportunity to simply pass up. One case as the boss isn’t enough of a taste.
Let’s see Murtaugh forced to step back from Riggs and Bailey’s case to handle captain duties. Let’s have Murtaugh fully understand that being captain means he will be out of the action, which may not entirely be a good thing.

Avery wasn’t out in the field, going to crime scenes, commandeering buses, destroying public property, making arrests, and other routine detective duties — routine for Murtaugh and Riggs, that is.
If Murtaugh doesn’t end up accepting the job, then at least show him thoroughly weighing his options. This isn’t a decision that should be made lightly, and it definitely should not be made in between episodes.
I’m curious as to how Riggs will take the news of potentially getting a new partner. What does it say about me that I’d love to see him team up with Bowman for a case?
