Supergirl Review: In Search of Lost Time (Season 3 Episode 15)
On Supergirl Season 3 Episode 15, “In Search of Lost Time,” chaos meets heartbreak to shape the story from here on out.
Setting aside the (agonizing) cause for a moment, there are some pretty epic scenes in the midst of the entire DEO coming completely unhinged. A good tip: if you have a lot of highly trained fighters in one place, you may want to invest in a lot of psychic dampeners.

Words are thrown with even more intensity than punches, though. Harsh as they are, the truths Kara lays out to Mon-El about his previous behavior feel like cleaning a slate and a chance to move forward to…well, somewhere.
(Of course, the single most important question stemming from all these events is: what in the world is the beef Pam from HR has with Winn?)

The son becomes the father and the father becomes the son.
The root all this, as we learn, is Myr’nn, attempting to protect his own, slowly failing, mind. His understandable anger leeches from him and affects everyone else tenfold. And oh, is it painful.
In the periods of calm between the DEO devolving into a state of utter madness, J’onn tries to help his father accept the awful truth of needing to partially submit his own mind to his son. It’s agony for both of them, and heartbreaking for audiences.

The acting from David Harewood and Carl Lumbly here is top-notch. Dementia is a truth all too many people have to face, and is being handled through the writing with sensitivity and care.
It promises to be a powerful thread for the rest of the season. One that’s probably going to be very hard for many people to watch, but that will hopefully respect what being in J’onn and Myr’nn’s shoes feels like.

At L Corp, Lena, having only appeared for a few seconds in the previous episode, is pulling her attempts to help Sam into center stage.
Watching her do everything she can for Sam is powerful, but decidedly anxiety inducing. Does she know just what Reign is capable of? If nothing else, she gets a taste of Sam’s desperate denial pretty quickly.
You ask an oncologist, they’ll say cancer. You ask a surgeon, they’ll cut you open. You ask a Luthor…they’ll say you’re a super villain.
Ouch.

We understand why Sam resists so fiercely, though. Facing the truth means facing what Reign has done, and every ounce of horror and guilt that comes with it.
Sam herself is only a mother who wants to do well and protect her child. If there’s any hurt left to spare, we see another reflection of parents and children doing anything to protect each other as she refuses to let Ruby be anywhere near her.
Thankfully, we get a few moments of levity to get us through all this. The first scene is lovely. While the fandom has mixed feelings about GuardianCorp, James supporting Lena’s need to have secrets is heartening.

Also, Winn telling Mon-El about fixing his suit is adorable, giving us my favorite non-angst filled exchange of the episode:
I have done something amazing!
You found Pestilence?
…I have done something okay.
Perhaps most importantly, the future looks amazing. Seriously, between cape tricks and interactive, 3D video event recreations, I can’t wait to see more.
