Grey’s Anatomy Renewed for Season 15 by ABC

Grey's Anatomy, News, Pinned

In what is maybe the least surprising TV news we could possibly get, but nonetheless very exciting, hit Shondaland drama Grey’s Anatomy has been renewed for a fifteenth season.

Ellen Pompeo had already signed on to return to the series with a two-year deal, and considering its popularity, this renewal has felt like a pretty sure bet. This renewal will also make Grey’s Anatomy the longest running primetime drama in ABC’s history.

Medical drama ER, by the way, lasted 15 seasons.

Grey’s Anatomy has a special place in my heart and millions of viewers feel the same way,” Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment, stated.

“Thanks to fiercely loyal fans who have been on this journey since the beginning, and new generations of viewers who continue to discover the joy and drama of Grey Sloan Memorial, the show is as strong as ever,” Dungey continued.

Set to star on Grey’s Anatomy Season 15 are Ellen Pompeo, Justin Chambers, James Pickens Jr., Kevin McKidd, Jesse Williams, Caterina Scorsone, Camilla Luddington, Kelly McCreary, and Giacomo Gianniotti.

Notice two key names are missing from that list. As previously announced, both Sarah Drew, who plays April Kepner, and Jessica Capshaw, who plays Arizona Robbins, will be exiting the series at the end of Season 14.

The TGIT lineup is also going to look a bit different next year now that hit drama Scandal has officially ended. There’s no news yet about Grey’s Anatomy‘s new spinoff, Station 19 or on another TGIT favorite, How to Get Away With Murder.

Shonda Rhimes will continue to be an executive producer on Grey’s Anatomy even though she recently signed a deal with Netflix.
