The Magicians: Top Moments from “All That Josh” (Season 3 Episode 9)
Alice, Kady, Quentin, and Josh have to escape an elaborate trap on The Magicians Season 3 Episode 9, “All That Josh.”
“All That Josh,” after one viewing, is already in my top 5 episodes of The Magicians to date.
Here are my top moments from “All That Josh.”

Fillory’s Betrayal
Eliot and Margo being sentenced to death because of all the terror that the fairies have brought is ridiculous, honestly. Yes, Margo and Eliot have not been the best king and queen, but the people of Fillory act like everything that has happened is strictly their fault when it’s not.
The most prominent plot twist that completely blows me away is Tick’s deceitfulness. After everything that Tick has done for Eliot and Margo, it’s sad to see that the whole time he has been plotting for their deaths to take Fillory back as his own.
Tick played the long game, and for that, I have to give him props, but I don’t understand why even in the beginning he didn’t make that a known statement or why nobody else told Margo and Eliot about him being a past ruler.
For a second part of me thinks that Margo and Eliot are actually going to crash the Muntjac, but it’s a pleasant surprise that the ship decided to spare their lives based off of Margo’s singing. I mean, who can blame her? Everyone, besides the people of Fillory, loves Margo.
My heart overflows with feelings when Margo and Eliot are saying their small goodbyes to each other and Margo is a ball of optimism that can’t be turned off. Through thick and thin they are there for each other and the bond will never break, but sometimes it’s nice to see it up close and personal.

Fairy Education
I know that throughout the series Julia has done some terrible things, but deep down she is a good person and I think that she goes above and beyond in continuing to prove it by saving Skye and teaching her that she isn’t weak.
Skye thinks that she is nothing but a weak, powerless fairy who needs the protection of Irene to stay alive. What will Skye do once she realizes that she’s even more powerful than she thought?
Irene has complete power over the fairies, including necklaces that kill any of them if they do any type of magic. Irene has these security measures in place because she knows that if they realize they can do magic, they would be able to overthrow her in a heartbeat.
I need Julia’s next step to be figuring out how to get those necklaces off of Skye and the rest of her friends. Maybe with her new, evolved powers that allow her to do magic without finger bending can come of use.
I like that Julia is upfront about not knowing what magic she’s done when she is freezing Skye in place to the rest of the group because I don’t think she would have told them if they hadn’t interrupted.
I love Julia with all of my heart, but when it comes to keeping secrets, she can be the queen, at times. With her powers evolving so rapidly and her being the only one who has their own natural magic, I don’t think that this is something she should keep to herself. I think that now she knows she can do it she needs to start practicing as much as she can to get it in control.
The only question being: did she bring back Skye because she was connected to the rest of the group? Or was that all on her own?

Old Friends
Josh’s return is an absolute blessing that the gods of The Magicians decided to grace us with. I’ve been patiently awaiting his return after it seemed like he was going to be a big part of the season in the very beginning.
I think it’s pretty ridiculous how Quentin and Alice have treated Josh with as much help as he has given them. If it weren’t for Josh, they wouldn’t be where they are today, and I think they forget that in the grand scheme of things.
Also, he is part of the quest. They were told that he was part of the journey, and yet they still treated him like a nobody that was expendable. Maybe now that he connected with the rest of the group and it’s 100% obvious that he is needed for the quest we’ll get to see some more of Josh.
I think that it is so precious that even when Josh is offered all that he could ever hope for he still has the urge to tell the group about the fifth key when Todd reveals it.
Josh got abandoned by the people he trusted and needed the most. Now it’s their turn to make it up to him.

The Magicians Sing
The musical element to “All That Josh” is one of the best things that I’ve seen The Magicians do. It alone makes this episode one of my top 5, on top of Julia blossoming into a powerful magician.
Out of all of the performances my favorite is, obviously, the group number where they all have to pitch in and unite as one. But, Kady killed the damn thing with her performance.
The only thing that I could think about during the entire experience of them being synced together is how it reminds me of Sense8, and I’m sad that we only got to see them connected with one another for a few short moments.
Other Thoughts:
- Fen’s face when Julia starts singing is EVERYTHING. I died of laughter.
- I hope that Fen can get over her hatred for the fairies to help Skye escape Irene.
- I hate that Tick still survived.
