The Magicians Review: The Art of the Deal (Season 3 Episode 10)
Things come to a halt for the McAllistair’s when Julia and Fen engage their plan with the Fairy Queen on The Magicians Season 3 Episode 10, “The Art of the Deal.”
When Fen was first introduced, I wanted nothing to do with her character, but I’ve come to love her as time has passed and now I want nothing but happiness for her. I love that we’re getting to see Fen face her fears, but at the same time take a step back and focus on herself.
I think that the only way Fen would return to Fillory is if the fairies left for good and magic came back. Even then I think there may be a fight to get her to go back in the beginning because of how she loves the earth and everything new there is to learn.

Part of me wants Fen to stay on earth and only go back to Fillory when she wants to visit. Fillory is where her whole life got taken away from her and where she has no family. Eliot could be considered her family, but Fen deserves someone she can fall in love and have another baby with.
Eliot loves and cares for Fen, but he isn’t the guy that she’s supposed to end up with.
Julia’s plan to get the Fairy Queen trapped as well in order to free the fairies from Irene is genius. Who else could convince a group of fairies that they’re more powerful than they could ever imagine besides the queen?

With the Fairy Queen breaking a fairy deal I’m curious how things will go back in Fillory. The Fairy Queen made it clear that breaking a deal means their word will no longer be honored.
The way the Fairy Queen makes it sound is as though it will be known to everyone in Fillory that a deal has been broken. Does the act of breaking a deal break the rest of the deals that that fairy has made? If so that means there’s a possibility that the Fairy Queen’s reign could come to an end.
I particularly love the scene where the fairies slaughter Irene’s family. Irene is just as monstrous as her family members so she knows that they could still be after her and she would never see it coming. I hope that in the end, Skye is the one to get revenge on Irene.

Penny giving the MetroCard that he swiped to Sylvia even after she forced him to be imprisoned in the underworld is a pretty significant sign of character development for him. It’s a beautiful moment to see him willingly give away his one shot at escape so Sylvia can see her family again.
With that same thought in mind, I also have to wonder if there’s a possibility that Penny could be giving up on getting out of the underworld after sitting down and speaking with Hades. I hope that isn’t the case, but I have a weird feeling about Penny giving away his escape route and joining Howard’s book club.
I foresee the Fairy Queen putting up one hell of a fight if Quentin and the rest of the group try to take the key out of the fairy realm. Without the fairy realm, the Fairy Queen would be forced to find somewhere else to take over, and I don’t think she’s going to be okay with that.

Margo and Eliot’s loyalty the throne of Fillory, even after being kicked out by the people of Fillory, is admirable. They are not going to let themselves be kicked out of their kingdom, especially when there’s a chance that it could be overthrown by an enemy.
I hope that the townsfolk of Fillory see the loyalty in Margo and Eliot and realize that they did the wrong thing kicking them out and that the fairies are the problem.
Other Thoughts:
- I’m glad that Alice calls Quentin out at the beginning of the episode. He acts like he’s done no harm and Alice should have to apologize for every little thing before she’s allowed to help.
- Fen’s obsession with emoji’s is hilarious.
- I hope that Victoria and Harriet are still alive so Josh and Victoria could reunite.
