The Big Bang Theory Review: The Neonatal Nomenclature (Season 11 Episode 16)
The Olympics are over and The Big Bang Theory is finally back on the air. On The Big Bang Theory Season 11 Episode 16, “The Neonatal Nomenclature,” Bernadette and Howard welcome their new baby, Neil Michael, to the world.
Though the Olympic break wasn’t unbearably long it for sure is great to have The Big Bang Theory back on the air! “The Neonatal Nomenclature” is an entertaining comeback and one that brings up a lot of questions regarding the future of the show.

I am mainly interested in whether the new baby will actually become a part of the show or whether he will be featured in a way similar to Halley? According to Steven Molaro, one of the writers and producers of the show, Halley’s treatment on the screen is a tribute to the treatment of Mrs. Wolowitz.
While that is a sweet reasoning for not showing Halley on screen I think the writers must also be conscious of the fact that including children in the narrative would somewhat throw of the balance of the show.
If there were babies present it would be much more difficult to see past the fact that Bernadette and Howard spend large amounts of time outside their home without their children.

Once again, Sheldon is the best part of the episode which really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
Rather than trying to find a way to induce Bernadette’s labor Sheldon goes over to Howard and Bernadette’s with an old board game he acquired from eBay. The game is called The Campaign for North Africa and it looks like it actually is a real board game.
According to a site called Board Game Geek the average playing time of the game for 10 players is listed at 1200 hours. No wonder Sheldon is as excited as he is.
Also, I am pretty sure Sheldon would love a website called Board Game Geek.

As Penny, Leonard, Amy, Sheldon and Raj wait for the news of the baby they start to discuss their plans regarding children. It is revealed that Leonard started to think about the names of his and Penny’s future babies the moment he met Penny (which is probably more creepy than sweet).
Leonard thinking about babies after meeting Penny is not news, though, since he declares on the pilot and his babies with Penny will be both smart and beautiful. Only time will whether Sheldon’s prediction about Leonard and Penny’s babies being imaginary will come true.

Sheldon’s plan to have 15 children with Amy is kind of a shocker, though, since I really can’t see Sheldon as a father. The idea of seeing him adjusting to the idea of being someone’s father is an interesting thought, though, and one I started to think about more after watching “The Neonatal Nomenclature.”
Though I hope a new pregnancy story line won’t make an appearance for a while now on The Big Bang Theory the idea of seeing Sheldon as a father instead of, for example, Leonard is an intriguing one.

It was the Campaign for North Africa, not North America. Hence, the line from Bernadette about the weather obviously being hot. This was confirmed later by Sheldon after a couple of dice rolls and chart checks.
