Good Girls Review: Atom Bomb (Season 1 Episode 4)
With their lives of crime seemingly behind them, Annie and Ruby other current issues begin to surface on Good Girls Season 1 Episode 4, “Atom Bomb.”
Ruby’s job sucks and Annie’s child is being bullied. Those are their biggest problems until Beth fills them in on her offer to still work for Rio.
Beth calling the others in when Rio leaves a bleeding man in her daughter’s bed is hilarious to force her hand. Annie and Ruby have no intention of staying in business with Rio, but Beth takes that choice away from them.
Surprising absolutely no one, the job goes terribly, the women are held at gunpoint and he even steals Beth’s car. Unlike previous moments that prove this trio is not comprised of criminal masterminds, this instance was scary.
The first couple of episodes include moments where the viewer can laugh at just how bad they are at all things crime related. Having this gun point at their faces takes the reminder to a much darker place.
The horror of the moment also brings up the question of what leads Beth to ask Rio for more work. Why do you want to keep working with this criminal? The answer could lie in a need for control.
While Annie and Ruby had happy lives and problems that could be solved with money, Beth agrees to rob the grocery store because she has lost control of her life. Her husband is cheating and lost a lot of the family’s money, which strips Beth of her stability.
Bringing in money by doing jobs for Rio keeps the control of Beth’s life in her own hands and it does not seem like she’s willing to give that up at all. With that thinking in mind, it does make sense that she would call Rio again.
Thankfully Beth has her son’s birthday party to keep her mind off the terrible event. The social event quickly turns into quite the mess. After buying a ton of items they plan to return for the epic party, Rio and Dean bring problems to Beth’s door.
Rio refuses to pay Beth because his bloody friend left and Dean, after seeing Rio arguing with Beth in her bedroom, realizes he has cancer. The revelations send Beth into a tailspin because she now needs money more than ever.
As does Ruby, who loses her job after giving a douchebag costumer a piece on her mind.
In the end, the women go back to Rio with a new deal ensuring their relationship with the career criminal won’t end anytime soon. They do, fortunately, find a less dangerous partnership as Rio’s new cleaners. Cleaners of his counterfeit money that is.
The women may be seeing dollar signs at the end of Good Girls Season 1 Episode 4 “Atom Bomb,” but Boomer has other ideas.
Yup, Boomer. This horrible man who will not just go away.
He has brought the FBI into the situation, so he can get revenge on Annie. The lengths he is going seem odd because his actual reasons aren’t clear.
That does not seem to matter to the FBI though because Boomer showed the agent a picture of Rio and he ended the episode waling up to Beth’s front door.
