Lethal Weapon Review: Ruthless (Season 2 Episode 16)

Lethal Weapon, Reviews

On Lethal Weapon Season 2 Episode 16, “Ruthless,” there’s an all-out war going on at the Murtaugh house, and everybody is getting roped into it. I hope you brushed up on The Art of War.

This war is a lot of fun to watch, especially since so many people are involved and basically telling Murtaugh to apologize to Trish. No one is on his side. It’s great that Riggs and Avery are involved in this.

Even though Trish and Murtaugh are fighting, it’s an enjoyable fight. Riana warns that it might go too far, but we’re not there yet, so we can enjoy the ride that is Trish v. Murtaugh.

Murtaugh: You’re talking to Trish? That is an unbelievable betrayal.

Riggs: Eh she called. I just didn’t want to be rude.

Murtaugh: You ignore my phone calls all the time!

It’s an unusual yet super hilarious way to spend time in the Murtaugh household and to involve the whole family. We haven’t seen RJ and Riana together for a while.

The only way this could have been better is to have seen the two of them plotting on how to fix or take advantage of the situation. RJ getting two free dinners out of it is a nice touch.

Everyone’s betting on Trish winning this, right?

Them making up at the end is predictable, which makes the fact that Murtaugh screws up and ends up being kicked out of the house amazing. The war is going to last another day, and you know it’s going to be great watching Murtaugh and Riggs cohabitate in a tiny RV.

Lethal Weapon Riggs Sleeping

The best part of the case is definitely Booker aka the ATF’s “lunatic.”

He brings out the hidden gem that is Randy Drexler, and we get to see more of how Avery handles (or doesn’t handle) supervising Riggs.

Sure, we could have spent time watching Riggs and Booker try to outdo the other one, rebellious/idiotic behavior-wise, but where’s the fun in that?

It would have been double the Riggs, which we recently experienced when Murtaugh decided to live dangerously on Lethal Weapon Season 2 Episode 15. So, it’s a lot more enjoyable to spend time with Avery and his old college buddy commiserating over supervising a less than model employee.

Avery: I don’t let him do anything. He just sort of does it.

Avery finally interacts with someone who understands the struggles he faces daily and the toll Riggs is taking on his health. Everyone needs to vent to someone.

Lethal Weapon Bye Ruthie

Sadly, it looks like this is the last we’ll see of Ruthie. Thank you for spending time with Riggs and being an utter delight. You’ll be missed.

However, it’s her time to go. If she stuck around for too long, her charm would have gotten old, and Riggs wouldn’t be making progress on his path to sobriety and, potentially, becoming a more normal member of society.

Ruthie can only help him so much. He has to do most of it himself.

Avery: He’s still hanging out with Ruthie?

Murtaugh: I think it’s purely sexual.
