Blindspot Review: Adoring Suspect (Season 3 Episode 6)

Blindspot, Reviews

This is one of those times where everything that I absolutely love about this episode can be summed up in two words: Rich DotCom!

Blindspot Season 3 Episode 6 “Adoring Suspect” continues to mercilessly tease the audience with hints about Jane’s daughter, Hirst’s betrayal, and what Roman is really up to.

The tedium of these tiny puzzle pieces is broken up by one thing this episode: the dose of comedy that Rich DotCom provides.

Overall, Blindspot Season 3 Episode 6 “Adoring Suspect” isn’t a bad episode.

It’s got Luke Mitchell pretending to romance the girl who was introduced on Blindspot Season 3 Episode 4 “Gunplay Ricochet.” It has Sullivan Stapleton being stoic and yet funny. It’s got Ashley Johnson working with cool gadgets.

All of these things make for a very solid episode.

The thing is there seems to be a slow drip of answers to the seasonal arc while favoring episodic cases. This is about what I expected when the season premiered, but now, six episodes and about a third of the season in, it’s just frustrating.

It’s like we’re being taken along for the ride to get the smallest, nebulous clue as to what is really going on. Typically, I really enjoy a slow burn arc to the season, but this feels almost painfully slow.

As each episode ticks onward, my list of questions continues to grow with fewer answers.

What really brings this to the forefront for me are the pressing questions I had after watching Blindspot Season 3 Episode 5 “This Profound Legacy.”

This episode introduces some new threads for the season, regarding Jane’s daughter, and I’m really interested in seeing where they lead, but the line on those questions is only let out a little bit.

In most cases, that would make me really angry, but Ennis Esmer’s performance as Rich DotCom saves this episode and gives it a much-needed dose of humor.

Rich DotCom’s episodes are some of the most humorous, funny, and engaging in Blindspot’s catalog. Rich’s antics as a super hacker turned good guy this season are bringing some much-needed humor to the season.

Some of Rich DotCom’s strongest moments this episode include fanboying over Keith Rhodes and trying to get Booky Bentley to say certain voice prompts by pitching a fake movie.

These bits had me laughing, but I think his chemistry with the rest of the team is what makes his episodes shine. Rich DotCom is very much the annoying little brother when he comes along, but it is so precious to see them bicker.

In past seasons, he’s been the biggest Kurt and Jane fan, acting almost like a window for the fans to be part of the world. What I really miss about those episodes though was always having to ask what Rich’s real intentions were.

With this story arc, there is no question of betrayal and no jumping off a building only to find that there’s a parachute in his tuxedo!

While seeing Rich turn over a new leaf in the eighteen-month time jump is great because it brings him onto the show more, it’s also impossible not to wait for the next shoe to drop.

  • This is the episode that convinced me I am done with this show. Kind of painfully ridiculous.
