21 TV Dramas We Loved in 2017
13. Mr. Robot

After what many considered a messy and inconsistent Season 2, Mr. Robot bounced back in full force with its critically-beloved third season. There were plenty of shocking moments — including multiple unexpected and unceremonious character deaths — and plenty of the dazzling scenes and sequences the show has become known for.
Rami Malek and Christian Slater have always been stellar in the leading roles — but in 2017, Mr. Robot also turned the spotlight to Angela and Darlene, allowing Portia Doubleday and Carly Chaikin to turn in incredible performances. This series deserves awards consideration all around come 2018!
14. The Crown

The Crown is a big-budget Netflix series that follows the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, through her relationships with her family and her role as a head of state during a time when Great Britain was experiencing massive political and cultural changes. That may sound a bit snooze-worthy, but it really is quite fascinating. This is largely thanks to an amazing performance by Claire Foy as Elizabeth and the writers’ ability to balance storylines between Elizabeth’s personal and public lives.
It also helps that Elizabeth is constantly surrounded by a wealth of well-known historical figures, from her royal family members to Winston Churchill to even Jacqueline Kennedy. At no point does The Crown suffer from a lack of interesting subject matter to explore.
Netflix showered The Crown with an immense budget and it shows in every single frame and pixel. So, in the event you do tire of her sister Margaret’s romantic entanglements or her husband Philip’s poor lifestyle choices, just sit back and feast your eyes on the sets, locations, and costumes.
15. How to Get Away With Murder

Ever since How to Get Away With Murder began back in 2014, it has kept viewers on the edge of their seats. With a great combination of acting compatibility between Viola Davis, Jack Falahee, Matt McGorry, Aja Naomi King, Carla Souza, Charlie Weber, and Liza Weil, the show is like nothing else on primetime.
The twists and turns of this season alone kept viewers holding their breath and constantly asking, “what next?” It’s one of the best dramas on TV today because it always excites and entertains. It’s unpredictability keeps everyone coming back for more.
16. Mindhunter

While the first season of this Netflix original got off to a slow start, it soon picked up the pace. Once Holden Ford and Bill Tench started interviewing serial criminals. the story began to unfold and even unravel a bit, much like Holden’s stability.
Though Mindhunter is really a niche market type show, attention all Criminal Minds and true crime fans, it doesn’t disappoint. It manages to follow the main story of creating a profiling system while also having background stories about specific killers. It’ll be interesting to see where the second season takes these characters and which real life killers they focus on.
17. Riverdale

This juicy teen drama not only survived the sophomore curse, but its second season has already far outstripped its first. The revelation of Riverdale’s dirty little secrets didn’t end with the mystery of Jason Blossom’s death, a new threat has come to town and taken everything to the next level.
In Riverdale Season 2, the relationships are richer, the plots are twisty-er than ever, and the series isn’t afraid to take its characters to some pretty dark places. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for our favorite scooby gang, or whose secrets will be revealed next.
18. Sweet/Vicious

MTV may have made the terrible mistake of cancelling Sweet/Vicious, but it has earned a place in our hearts forever. Jules and Ophelia are the partners in crime we’ve been waiting for, especially since their crime is kicking rapist ass and getting justice for sexual assault survivors.
Sweet/Vicious is filled with strong female characters and wonderful friendships. Most importantly, it instilled in us a message that everyone needs to hear: “we believe you.”
