The Mick Review: The Homecoming (Season 2 Episode 7)
On The Mick Season 2 Episode 7, “The Homecoming,” Jimmy is the star of the show, and it’s maybe my favorite episode yet.
I’ll be honest, I’m not the biggest Jimmy fan. He’s funny and all, but he just kinda seems like a sidekick. Until now, that is.

If you’d asked me how I’d feel about an episode of The Mick that’s all about Jimmy, I probably would have said I didn’t want it.
But I didn’t know. I didn’t know that I needed it. Jimmy’s backstory is gold. It’s absurd to a point that I didn’t think possible, but the cast sells it.
In short, Jimmy was an all-star pitcher until Mickey “burned his ass off” with a firecracker.
Yes, for real.

Except, he doesn’t know it’s Mickey’s fault until they head to homecoming and the truth comes out.
I summarize this just to say that somehow this truly ridiculous storyline does something for the show that nothing else has so far. It humanizes Mickey and Jimmy in a real, emotional way. I actually feel for Jimmy.
This is his breaking point.
I simultaneously feel for Mickey. She’s been living with a terrible secret and now she’s faced with the consequences. She can’t apologize – and when she finally does, it’s too little, too late.

Somehow a story about a firecracker and how pitchers really use their asses more than their arms makes me fall in love with Mickey and Jimmy as a couple.
Just as they seem to be breaking up for good.
The depth of their conversations is stunning. Especially when you consider what they are talking about. Both actors really sell the emotions behind this truly absurd scenario.
A new layer has been added to The Mick and it’s helping the show stay relevant while allowing it to continue pushing the boundaries of what an audience will accept as reality.
I’m not sure how Mickey will deal with Jimmy telling her “you’re not nice.” I’m also not sure how the kids will deal with Jimmy being out of the picture.

Meanwhile, we’re finally admitting that Chip is, in Sabrina’s words, “a terrible person” and I’m here for it.
Chip is a terrible person. I don’t even think sending a couple of kids to jail is the worst thing he’s ever done.
Stray thoughts:
- Alba turning into a teenager with a crush is brilliant. “This is his gum” made me LOL.
- Jimmy went to Stanford?
- I love Mickey’s response to being asked if she’s rich now: “Oh yeah, I put truffles on everything.”
- Chip: “bravery is for poor people.” He’s the worst.
- I’m not sure how Mickey keeps a straight face. Her “thank you and congratulations” ending of Jimmy’s train wreck speech is classic.
- Mickey: “for the record, I was not anticipating this much violence.” Dude, me neither.
