The Good Place Review: Team Cockroach (Season 2 Episode 4)

Reviews, The Good Place

While the first few episodes have been charming and downright hilarious, The Good Place Season 2 Episode 4, “Team Cockroach,” takes a step back in order to further the plot lines.

“Team Cockroach” has its quirky, funny moments, but ultimately it seems to drag along as most of the episode is spent inside of Eleanor’s house trying to figure out whether or not Michael should be trusted.

I’m glad that eventually Eleanor comes around and agrees to help Michael. I don’t see any other viable choice for the group, to be honest.

Eleanor could tell Michael to fork off and escape to Mindy’s where she can live out the rest of her days with a sex-crazed, cocaine-addicted psycho. But she knows that’s not going to work.

It’s difficult to tell, but could there be a possibility that this is just another plan of Michael’s to try to secretly torture them? It’s out there, but Michael is not someone I would invest all of my trust in.

I don’t think that Michael would ever truly get the five of them into the real Good Place. He may have the power to control the world they’re in now, but he can’t change the fact that they were horrible people on earth.

Although this episode isn’t as climactic as the previous ones, I do enjoy watching Tahani get taken down a peg by Michael. I love Tahani’s character, but man can she become overwhelming with her attitude.

I also think that Tahani’s death could be the most relatable because family drama is one of the most common things. She didn’t care about what she did; she only wanted to beat her sister at everything and be the better child. That’s not a healthy way to live, but I know a few people who act just like this.

My favorite part of “Team Cockroach” is Michael convincing Eleanor that Chidi does care for her. I believe that they are supposed to be soul mates in this hell that they’re living in.

Girl, you’re dead and the only way to continue ‘living’ is to play nice with a demon who’s been torturing you for lord knows how long. The least you could do is be open to finding love in this forsaken place.

Other Thoughts:

  • I couldn’t care any less than I already do for Jason’s character. Putting him with Janet is the only thing that makes him somewhat bearable and not downright annoying.
  • I don’t think it’ll take long before there’s trouble and Vicky begins to realize that something is up.
  • Eleanor just needs to send that cocaine-filled train to Mindy. Give her something to live for.

Favorite Quotes:

  • “Oh no, I died in Cleveland??” – Tahani
  • “Janet, call me a train. Fill it to the brim with cocaine.” – Eleanor
  • “I gotta say, it took me a long time to get used to the hanging bits.” – Michael
  • “We’re running out of time, and I’m your only option? A lot of guys your age said that to me just as the bar was about to close. But, I never settled for them because my ex-boyfriend lived nearby. He was obsessed with me, and he never slept because he was addicted to Adderall. There’s always another option.” – Eleanor
