The Big Bang Theory Review: The Relaxation Integration (Season 11 Episode 3)

Reviews, The Big Bang Theory

On The Big Bang Theory Season 11 Episode 3, “The Relaxation Integration”, Sheldon and Amy try to pick a wedding date. Knowing Sheldon, that process is excruciatingly difficult.

The impending wedding of Amy and Sheldon makes me extremely excited and I have big hopes for the wedding episode. Will we get the kind of outdoor wedding Amy dreams about or will changes be made to the plan Amy presents to Sheldon towards the end of the episode?

Though I am really looking forward to the wedding itself, episodes following the preparations for the wedding also manage to make me very excited. For example, thinking about Amy picking her wedding dress makes me quite emotional.

I just hope the writers and producers actually give us a proper wedding episode with all kinds of drama and romance!

“The Relaxation Integration” focuses largely on the process Amy and Sheldon go through in order to pick a wedding date. Sheldon, who tends to consider everything with care, feels like there is a perfect wedding date out there. He just needs to figure it out.

Following Sheldon through this process is fairly hilarious and I especially like the scene on which it is revealed that Sheldon’s perfect wedding date actually took place in the 90s.

Though I am not myself a wedding person, I know weddings are a BIG deal for a lot of people. I just never expected Sheldon to be one of those people. Seeing him worrying about perfect wedding dates and the wedding planning, in general, warms my heart much more than I expected.

I have been watching The Big Bang Theory for such a long time that major positive developments in the lives of the characters tend to make me kind of emotional.

Sheldon: Oh look, a hitchhiker. I bet he has some interesting stories.

A lot of the laughs of the episode center around the idea that the usually high-strung, controlled Sheldon can be surprisingly chill while dreaming. He talks about hitchhikers, likes smooth jazz, and thinks beaches and public pools both sound awesome. Though it would be interesting to see a whole episode focused on this “chill Sheldon,” I must admit I am quite a big fan of him just as he is.

He can be annoying as hell, but that also makes him his own kind of special. And on many instances the brilliance of The Big Bang Theory relies on his specialness.

Now, let’s talk about Raj. Since The Big Bang Theory started Raj has been one of my favorite characters of the show, but recently it has felt like the writers are trying to do their damnedest to make me hate Raj.

He can be such a sweet, interesting character but, for some reason, the writers find it necessary to portray him as clingy and annoying.

After being introduced to Bernadette’s new colleague Ruchi, Raj and Stuart start to fight for her, as if she is the only available woman in their area. Both Raj and Stuart give HORRIBLE first impressions of themselves and surprisingly, it seems like Stuart actually does better in attracting the attention of Ruchi.

Is Stuart becoming a character I am actually supposed to care about? I hope not, because I have never been a fan of his. This whole “pairing Raj and Stuart together because they are both lonely losers”- trend needs to stop. Stuart can go to hell and Raj needs to, once again, become an actual core member of the original group of friends. Not just someone who jokes about his eternal loneliness and despair.
