Younger Review: It’s Love, Actually (Season 4 Episode 11)
On the penultimate episode of Younger Season 4 Episode 11, “It’s Love, Actually,” there are break-ups, new deals, and a major declaration from Liza…but to the wrong man. Plots are lined up to either get a dramatic flourish on the last episode or brought forward to Season 5.
The cold open is great because we see the whole gang together, however, it’s too short. Maggie has hardly been on the past couple of episodes. It would be great if Maggie has more of a storyline with Liza next season. Debi Mazar is just too good to be in the background.
The Younger cast is fantastic and although each individual character is compelling on their own, there is such great chemistry when Liza and Maggie have a girls’ night with Lauren and Kelsey. Or, when Kelsey and Liza are at a work function with Diana and Charles.
The gang is together at the beginning of “It’s Love, Actually” because Clare must go back to Ireland. Josh is understandably bummed. Clare is likable and a good match for Josh, but I couldn’t help but wonder if she doesn’t quite feel as strongly as he does. Remember the tear rolling down his face as they had one last snuggle?
Clare admits that their time together has been wonderful, but she sees no point in a transatlantic relationship. So, Josh decides to head to Ireland without Clare asking him to.
Might she have someone back at home waiting for her?
Then again, Clare probably doesn’t want to miss Josh too much and just decided that it was best for them to separate. Perhaps they’ll see each other in the finale and do something crazy like get married so she can live in Brooklyn.
Another couple ends as well: Richard and Diana. Apparently, Richard’s son Ethan didn’t get kicked out of his mother’s house and Richard was just lying to Diana.
It’s a good thing Diana calls it quits because Richard wanted her to move into a two-bedroom apartment, far from her posh one. The look on her face when Richard takes the blindfold off is hilarious.
We know that Diana is going to be okay. She doesn’t need anyone and instead of feeling upset about that, she feels empowered. And that red dress she wears at the end—to die for.

Confession time: I don’t understand the hullabaloo around Pauline. We’re always told what a fabulous, funny, and smart writer she is, however, it doesn’t really come through in her personality.
She’s pleasant, I suppose, but there is no real heat between her and Charles. She’s nice but not warm. She’s apologetic but doesn’t always seem sincere.
I want Liza and Charles to have a chance, so it’s easy to peg Pauline as a real threat. Compared to other characters on Younger, Pauline doesn’t seem like a real, multi-dimensional person. And it’s like we’re being told how amazing she is but not really seeing it.
Anyway, Charles has certainly warmed up to his estranged wife and has even invited her to stay in the guest room. This information shakes up Liza, so much so that she confides in Jay (after he figures it out) that she is in love with Charles.
Liza has always brushed off her feelings for Charles but she has finally admitted that she loves him. Poor Jay! Jay is quite sweet and is there for Liza as she cries into his arms. Maybe Diana and Jay should get together. They’d make a nice couple.
The road to happiness for Liza and Charles is a long one. Firstly, there’s the semi-reconciliation between Charles and Pauline standing in their way. Secondly, Charles is still Liza’s boss and the whole reason she lies about her age is to make a mark in publishing.

Thirdly, and probably most importantly, Liza has been lying to Charles.
Maybe Pauline will out Liza to Charles. I have a feeling she will turn nasty once she finds out how Liza and Charles had a few hot make out sessions.
Another bump in the road for Liza and Charles is Kelsey and how Charles has been handling Millennial. Charles and Kelsey have had heated arguments about Millenial and Kelsey’s choices.
Speaking of Kelsey, it looks like we’re going to be seeing a lot more of Zane since he signed on to work with Empirical. I’m thrilled about this because Kelsey and Zane’s chemistry is off the charts.
Zane is also challenging and unlike any of the other guys Kelsey has dated. I’m interested to see where Younger takes this new storyline and what effect it will have on Kelsey, Liza, and Millennial.
Overall, “It’s Love, Actually” is a strong episode which opens the door for plenty of drama for the season finale. Will Charles get clued in to how Liza really feels about him? Will Pauline move back into the master bedroom? Is Clare going to be happy to see Josh or annoyed?

Nora, do you know the song that is playing when Clare and Josh are in bed together at the beginning of the episode?
I have tried looking–it seems impossible to find. Sorry!
