Younger Review: Irish Goodbye (Season 4 Episode 12)

Reviews, Younger

Younger Season 4 Episode 12 “Irish Goodbye,” is a good, but not necessarily thrilling finale. It’s funny with heavy hitters, Diana and Maggie, but there aren’t many moments that shock or that make me squeal at the TV.

The cold open shows something I suspected from the Younger Season 4 Episode 11, “It’s Love, Actually” — Clare and Josh are getting married so she can live in America.

It’s a predictable storyline, but Josh has to stay on Younger somehow. Was anyone else surprised that Josh told Clare how old Liza is? I understand that people tell their significant others secrets, but damn, Josh, you’ve only known Clare for three weeks.

Clare is slightly unlikeable when she and Liza discuss Liza lying for them. I understand why they want her to lie and I see why Liza would be apprehensive.

But Liza acts like telling a lie is a huge crime—it’s a lot like the pot calling the kettle black.

I’m glad that Liza decides to just be happy for Josh and Clare and tells everyone that they’ve been together for six months. We all knew though, that by the way Josh watches Liza dance, that he’d end up in her room, right?

I have really struggled between being on Team Charles and Team Josh. But, as much as I loved Josh and Liza together, I think I’m kind of over them.

What they had was amazing. But, Josh just seems too fickle now.

This season, he dated Montana, kissed Kelsey, Tindered a bunch of chicks, told Liza it’s always going to be her, and then marries Clare.

Josh and Liza have sizzling chemistry and I would totally wish that these two would get back together if 1) Liza hadn’t just admitted that she loves Charles and 2) Josh grows up a little.

I mean that in the nicest way possible about Josh. He is young and what he had with Liza was intense. He wears his heart on his sleeve and he kinda falls hard for every girl he meets.

Liza kisses Josh back, even though I feel like she isn’t all that into it, but had just seen Charles on GMA with Pauline. Josh is a distraction for her.

If Liza told Charles how she feels about him, he would want to be with her. There are complications with him being her boss, but they’d work around it somehow.

As much as I want to see Liza and Charles together, I can’t help but feel frustrated by her. She is the one who told Charles that she would rather have her career than be with him. She said this in a nicer way and of course, she shouldn’t have to give up her career for him.

But, Liza is upset that Pauline and Charles are getting closer. And whose fault is that?

Charles asked Liza to stay away from Pauline, but she refused to.

Liza’s career is progressing nicely because she didn’t listen to Charles, but I am still waiting for Pauline to turn on Liza once she realizes that Liza is the woman standing in the way.

While Liza and Maggie are off in Ireland, Zane is already causing trouble at Empirical. It’s hilarious how Diana scolds Liza about always chasing boys as she flirts with Zane.

She tells Charles that she and Richard have broken up. She is in the same boat as Charles.

Diana: We’re two ships in the night.

As much as I love all the characters on Younger, Diana delights each week.

Zane and Kelsey are clashing over all sorts of things and it doesn’t seem like these two will rekindle their romantic relationship anytime soon.

The look on Charles’ face when Diana says Liza is in Ireland “chasing Josh” is everything. What was Charles going to say to Liza if she had picked up her phone?

Overall, “Irish Goodbye” is a satisfying end to the season although I wish that there were a few more surprises and a couple more OMG moments.

Of course, I’ll be counting down the days to Season 5.
