The Mist Review: Over the River and Through the Woods (Season 1 Episode 7)
On The Mist Season 1 Episode 7, “Over the River and Through the Woods”, Nathalie proves that she’s the chosen one, Kevin does something unthinkable, and the mall people get antsy.
While this hour was slightly better than The Mist Season 1 Episode 6, we still have no answers, and there are only three episodes left. Like last hour, the only question that remains is who cares.
Kevin goes on a rampage for no reason other than he is angry, but he’s always been angry. Instead of him killing a mental patient, it would have been better if there was movement to the story, but once again, we reach a dead end, quite literally in this case.
I’d be surprised if we find out that Adrian did indeed rape Alex, but it also wouldn’t be surprising if it turns out Alex lied all along. Maybe she was trying to deflect the fact that she got drunk at Jay’s party. It seems like something she would do.
But that story is so old, it’s not even worth caring about anymore.

We did learn something new from Jonah’s flashback but not enough to intrigue. At this point, things should be coming to a head, yet that’s not happening.
Sure the main mall group is getting antsy, but isn’t that what we expected anyway? It’s not a surprise, and it’s not interesting.
I just don’t care about anyone in the mall. They could all die in the mist for all I care, especially Eve. She and Kevin are still the most grating characters on the show.
The only mildly interesting development this hour is Nathalie and the priest taking the mist challenge.
It’s a stupid decision on the priest’s part, but I guess it’s supposed to say something about organized religion or maybe just something about the Roman Catholic Church, though the show doesn’t make clear exactly what it’s trying to say.

It is a rather boring cliche to make us want to hate the priest and everything he represents. Having the four horsemen greet him isn’t clever at all. He believed the mist the end of times, and he got his wish. Yawn.
Nor was it surprising that Nathalie was the one to survive. Of course, she was going to be the winner because we already knew the mist liked her, so why they had to have the challenge at all is beyond me. There seems to be more filler to this series than there is actual story.
Like I said in my review of The Mist Season 1 Episode 6, I’ve come to the conclusion that there isn’t enough story to stretch for ten episodes. The series is still gratingly long and boring.
While it was a slight improvement over the last hour, there’s still plenty to be desired from this story. Perhaps if it didn’t take itself so seriously, it might be more enjoyable to watch.
