Younger Review: In the Pink (Season 4 Episode 4)
Kelsey and Liza are good again. That fact is the most important takeaway from Younger Season 4 Episode 4 “In the Pink.” Season 4 continues to be consistently funny but also combines comedy with tender moments.
The men of Younger take a backseat on “In the Pink.” Charles is barely in it and Josh is only mentioned by name. Liza tries to “unclog her drains” by sleeping with a handsome, age appropriate architect named Diego while Kelsey flirts with Zane, a rival (and gorgeous) editor.
The episode shows us that Liza has been given a promotion and new title, but she still must also be an assistant to Diana. One of her first tasks as Associate Editor at Millenial is to go out for lunch with Belinda LaCroix, an elderly lady who has written a romance novel every year since the 1970s.
“In the Pink,” hits its comical stride at Belinda’s funeral. It’s too bad that she dies so suddenly. She’s a hoot.
It’s at the funeral where Kelsey first sees Zane played by The Originals’ Charles Michael Davis. So far, Zane and Kelsey have great chemistry and since he doesn’t look like Kelsey’s “doppelbangers”, hopefully, he’ll stick around a while.

But back to Kelsey and Liza’s renewed friendship.
On “Forged with Fire,” after Kelsey is way harsh to Liza, she sees how Liza is so concerned about Caitlin’s health after the work retreat. It causes her to soften and leads her to tell Charles that Liza deserves a promotion.
As “In the Pink” begins, Kelsey and Liza are back to being besties. It’s a bit jarring considering Kelsey seemed to only warm up at the end of the last episode to have everything seem back to normal at the beginning of “In the Pink.”
It’s not until later in the episode that Liza asks Kelsey if they are good, which Kelsey says that they are and that she hopes her mom would do something as crazy as Liza for her.
Kelsey’s forgiveness seems awfully sudden—but I don’t care.
Younger could have dragged out the rift between Kelsey and Liza for a few more episodes, but it’s just so nice to see Liza and Kelsey as close friends again. Liza has lied to all the important people in her life, so it’s easy to understand why Kelsey was so angry with her.

However, by drawing out their rift, Younger would be less enjoyable to watch. The first three episodes are good, but it almost physically hurt to see Kelsey and Liza fight. After seeing them reconcile completely on “In the Pink,” their friendship is even more genuine now because Kelsey knows the truth.
It’s also fun seeing Kelsey try to watch herself when she calls someone in their forties “old.”
Belinda LaCroix summed up Younger best as she describes her novels.
My books are about women coming together to control their lives. Men are just candy.
Younger is about love and hot men for sure, but it’s about friendship more than anything. Seeing Liza, Maggie, Kelsey, and Lauren watching The Crown together at the end just made me so damned happy.
Now, Diana needs to find out about Liza and then she can join the girl gang. By the way, there is not nearly enough Diana on “In the Pink.”
Overall, “In the Pink” is an entertaining episode with plenty of laughs and all the feels.
Final Notes:
- Kelsey’s outfits this season are so over the top but I’m loving every one.
- Diana’s earring game is incredible.
- I love the look on Charles’ face when Liza asks why can’t a woman be a hero who loves good sex.
- Maggie’s margaritas look so good.
- I’m completely fine with the objectification of Zane.
- Liza finds out about Montana having slept with Josh. Ugh, can we please get rid of Montana?
