Wynonna Earp: Top Quotes from ‘No Future in the Past’ (Season 2 Episode 8)
On Wynonna Earp Season 2 Episode 8, “No Future in the Past,” Wynonna learns a lot about the Earp curse, and she (along with everyone else) falls in love with Bobo. Nothing is quite the same after this hour. Is anyone else feeling a season one rewatch coming on?
Honestly, the best way to talk about this hour and dissect what happened is through quotes, so check out my top quotes from the episode, and be sure to share yours in the comments below!
Mysterious Juan Carlos No More
Juan Carlos: It’s my curse, I mean literally. It is my burden, my curse, to survive and witness, never to decide. But you, Wynonna Earp, you’re all choices. I can show you what you want to know, but you must go willingly.
Suddenly, Juan Carlos’ cryptic words and appearances make sense. He could not do anything more than that without dying.
Honestly, it would have been okay to go on without any Juan Carlos answers for a while. It’s not as if we were constantly confused (in a bad way) every time he popped up. His appearance was never a distraction.
He’s always intriguing, and any time he appeared, you knew things were going to get interesting.
That being said, it is amazing that we do get some answers.
He is the only way we would have ever gotten a Wynonna on a vision quest, and he opens the world up a little bit more. We learn more about the kinds of beings that live within the Ghost River Triangle.

Origin Story
Constance: You’re going to be a demon, Robert.
Bobo: I am a good man!
Constance: Hell burns that right out of you.
Robert aka Bobo is a good man. Who saw that one coming?!
Wow, this entire episode is a master class on backstory. We learn so much about Bobo, which forces us to view his actions during season one a lot differently.
This hour also punches you right in the heart.

Michael Eklund’s delivery of, “I’m a good man,” is heartbreaking. It makes you want to wrap Bobo up in a warm blanket and protect him from everything.
This hour allows you to view a character you once hated, or well loved to hate, and makes your heart bleed for him. It’s not an easy thing to accomplish, and it’s done so well.
He was the big bad during season one, but this hour reveals that he’s a victim of the curse just like Wynonna is. Neither one of them asked for this, but their lives were forever changed because of it.
This is such a great parallel, and it will be interesting to explore if Wynonna’s new knowledge changes how she operates from here on out.
Three Wives
Constance: Funny, isn’t it? He loved me best because of my magic, and now my magic will doom the bastard.
Let’s keep the answers coming!
Constance is a joy to watch, and her past self is no different. Through her, we learn who the sisters (sister wives) are, why they wear black (they’re grieving the “death” of their husband!), what the third seal is, and what the seals are protecting. Yes, it’s a lot to process, but it’s done well.
It’s not an information overload. All the information comes naturally, mainly because everything is connected. You’re fascinated, not confused, and that’s a tricky balance to pull off.
Up until now, we did not know much of anything about the sisters that have terrorized the town, so in addition to providing information on the curse and on Bobo, Wynonna’s walkabout clues us in on the threat that she and her team are up against.
Now, the sisters’ motives make sense, and it’s easier to get a lot more invested in their mission and stopping it.

His Angel
Bobo: If you’re an angel. We’re going to be on different sides.
Wynonna: I need to wake up.
Bobo: I promise I will never hurt you, no matter what form I take. I swear it. I swear I will never hurt you. What’s my angel’s name?
Wynonna: Waverly.
Bobo could see Wynonna apparently all during her walkabout. The how is a little fuzzy, but it really does not matter because it allows for a fantastic scene between Wynonna and Bobo.
During season one, Bobo always knew more than Wynonna, and now things are the other way around. Not only does Wynonna know about Bobo’s future, but she gets to know the real Bobo, the human Robert, and that affects how she treats him.
This allows for us to watch Wynonna and Robert interact in a way that they never have before, and it’s absolutely fascinating. There’s so much emotion in their final scene in the church where they are both dying and trying to comfort the other one.
Any theories as to why Wynonna said Waverly’s name? We know that Bobo always protected Waverly during season one, but is that why Wynonna said Waverly or is it because she will always protect her baby sister, even if it means having someone else help her do it?
Game Changer
Wynonna: The Earp heir dead, only for a few seconds though, right?
Holy. Shit.
Even if Wynonna did not learn everything she did about Bobo, his return is a game changer. I’m not sure how or when he and Wynonna will cross paths, but it’s going to be interesting to see how Wynonna acts around him.
What will be even more interesting will be Bobo’s response. I cannot wait.

Honorable Mentions
- Nedley: “That’s enough with the shouting. This ain’t no Ed Sheeran concert.”
- Dolls: “Enjoy your righteousness and protein shakes.”
- Wynonna: “Of course I don’t have a gun. I’m also not really here, so I can probably get shot, and I would be okay. Unless, if you die in your dream, do you die in real life?”
- Waverly: “I’m the nicest person in Purgatory. There was a vote. I got a sash.”
