Killjoys: Top Moments from The Lion, The Witch, and The Warlord (Season 3 Episode 4)

Killjoys, Reviews

On Killjoys Season 3 Episode 4, “The Lion, The Witch, and The Warlord,” Team Awesome Force learns that Johnny “murdered” Delle Seyah, and while D’av works on clearing Johnny’s name, Dutch and Pree try to find somewhere safe to hide Johnny.

Check out my top moments from the hour below, and be sure to drop by the comments to share your picks!

D’av and Zeph

Basically, Zeph has great chemistry with everyone.

She’s got a mentor relationship with Johnny complete with some slightly competitive banter. Dutch supports Zeph and gives her moral support and a kickass female role model, and D’av, well, D’av and Zeph are just something special.

D’av: As much as I love being your guinea bitch, Zeph, me and my nipples are off limits until you can do some more research.

It’s hilarious to watch the two of them interact. Between Zeph’s inappropriate requests to D’av’s jokes that she doesn’t get, it’s nonstop laughs.

But it’s not all fun and games. Zeph is making real progress with the revenant and with the plasma. We could have just listened to Zeph rattle off what she has learned, or is trying to figure out, but by throwing D’av into the mix, it’s a lot more enjoyable to watch.

Zeph is also very much still a newbie, so she’s still getting to know Dutch, Johnny, and D’av. It’s nice that we aren’t only seeing her with Johnny, but instead are getting to see how she interacts with everyone on the team.

I’m going to need some more Dutch and Zeph moments ASAP.

D’av Protecting Johnny

I’m a sucker for some Jaqobis brotherly love. Normally, the team splitting up isn’t a good thing, at least not in my book. They’re much more fun to watch when they are all in the same place. Plus, not having to jump between storylines is always a bonus.

However, D’av’s quest to protect Johnny is absolutely amazing. It makes sense that Plan A is to get Johnny out of dodge, but hiding out near some asteroids isn’t going to fix the problem. Someone has to try to fix thing.

What better person that D’av?

While we all obviously know that D’av and Johnny are brothers, it’s nice to have that relationship front and center. Hopefully, we will get to see D’av and Johnny talk about everything that happened with Delle Seyah.

Yes, there’s a war to fight, but there’s time for two brothers to sit down and talk about their feelings over a drink, right?

Dutch vs. Johnny

Oh wow, there is a lot to discuss here. For one, the fact that Johnny and Dutch compete against one another is absolutely amazing. They are both beyond competitive, and it’s fun to watch them fight about how they aren’t really fighting because Dutch needs to win.

It’s a recipe for quality entertainment, and man does it deliver. Then, the truth bomb kicks in, which leads to some funny truths from Johnny about Dutch’s pottery, of all things.

Of course, then things get serious out of nowhere, which is amazing but also heart-wrenching.

Johnny: I was going to come back.

Dutch: I did not want you to! You know when I first met you, you were Johnny Jaqobis – lover of ponies, sunshine optimist. You weren’t a murderer, and I won’t watch you turn into me.

Johnny: Who I am has nothing to do you. I am not the angel on your shoulder. It is not my job to stop you from going full Khylen and murdering everyone that gets in your way. You could stop yourself, but you don’t want to because revenge feels good, and I know that now. And I know that this is what this war is all about for you. It’s not about saving the Jay. It’s not about killing the Hullen. You want to destroy Aneela to prove to dead daddy K that you are better than her.

Wow, wow, wow. This is where Killjoys excels.

Yes, the show does humor and sci-fi amazingly, but it also can get serious and emotional, which is a mark of a great show, in my opinion.

Often times when a lighter show tries to go a little bit darker or go for that emotional gut punch, it does not always land. Killjoys doesn’t have that problem.

Dutch and Johnny have needed to have a serious talk since Johnny returned on Killjoys Season 3 Episode 2. You can’t split up a team for months, and then expect everything to be perfect whenever the team is finally back together.

Even though this conversation happens courtesy of some truth serum, it’s still amazing that Johnny and Dutch finally get to be open with one another about what’s really bothering them about the situation.

Johnny: Did we break up back there? It kind of felt like we broke up.

Dutch: You wanted space. I gave you space.

Johnny: I was talking actual space space, not between us!

There’s just one issue – JOHNNY DOES NOT GET TO ANSWER DUTCH WHEN SHE ASKS WHY HE CAME BACK!

Johnny’s face as he is about to answer that question is heartbreaking, and we better get the answer soon!

D’av Meets Aneela

This is as awesome as I hoped it would be. My only complaint is that it’s too short of a meeting.

Before this season, Aneela has been a distant threat. We have seen what she can do through flashbacks, but we have not spent any time up close and personal with her.

D’av: Baroness von Batshit’s gone full Hullen.

She hasn’t battled Team Awesome Force nor shared a scene with any of them, until now. Even though her meeting with D’av is brief, it gives him a sense of who they are up against.

For Aneela, it puts a face to the threat.

Yes, she knows what Dutch looks like, but I’m not sure how much about Dutch’s operation Aneela is aware of. She certainly did not know anything about D’av’s connection to the plasma until his visit.

D’av and Aneela’s meeting makes the stakes a little more real. Aneela gets a sense of what D’av, and by extension Dutch, is capable of, and D’av gets a sense of who Aneela is.
