The People Behind Freeform’s New Series ‘The Bold Type’
The Bold Type is all about girl power, or woman power I should say, as the series follows three young women while they launch a global women’s magazine.
This highly anticipated show, inspired by the Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Joanna Coles, has many excited for a multitude of reasons, from the actresses to the girl power inspiration.
But what about the people behind the scenes? Who’s giving us our angles and writing these tantalizing stories? Meet the some of the people behind the scenes who have given their sweat and tears to make The Bold Type a reality.
Sarah Watson
Sarah Watson fills an Executive Producer role for the new series. Watson is a genius writer and executive producer who has given us many beloved television shows. She recently signed a two-year deal with Universal Television, a marked promotion in her quick rise to fame in the television industry.
The show that she is most well-known for was the drama Parenthood (2010-15) that aired on NBC. However, her other dramas have included the TV show Pure Genius (2016-2017) and the movie Absolute Hero (2006).

Joanna Coles
Joanna Coles acts as another Executive Producer for The Bold Type because she was one of the women who inspired the show. Who better to write the show than the woman who lived it?
As stated earlier, Coles got her big start at Cosmopolitan Magazine. She mastered her job as editor-in-chief at Cosmo for four years until David Carey, the president of Hearst Magazine, approached her with a higher position.
As she states in her interview with The New York Times, she absolutely loved Cosmo, but she felt like it was time to move on and stretch her editing legs in a different medium. Keep an eye out for this powerhouse; I’m sure her rise to the top won’t stop there.

Holly Whidden
Holly Whidden is the producer, which means she’s responsible for the managerial and funding aspects of the series. She’s another woman who’s powered through the industry with her talent and wit.
Surprise, surprise, Whidden and Coles are co-workers! They both work for Hearst Magazine. Whidden has gone from Executive Producer of Public Relations to Director of Editorial Brand Strategy and now she is currently Head of Talent and Entertainment.
David Bernad
David Bernad is also an Executive Producer for The Bold Type. This show is actually the second one Bernad has been working on in the 2016-2017 season. He’s also an Executive Producer of the comedy Superstore that airs on NBC.
Although he’s no stranger to television, most of his credits belong to film. Bernad was a producer on Magic Magic (2013), 7 Days in Hell (2015) and The D Train (2015).

Reuben Fleischer
Rueben Fleischer is another Executive Producer alongside Bernad, Coles, and Watson. Similar to Bernad, he has a big history in film.
His works should sound very familiar, since they are big blockbuster films. He was the producer of Zombie Land (2009), Gangster Squad (2013) and 30 minutes or Less (2011).
However, that doesn’t mean he hasn’t worked on television either. He was a producer on a notable comedy that went on for 2 years called Rob & Big.
When you read through these names there should be no doubt in your mind what an amazing series The Bold Type will be. It features innovative minds and ground-breaking talent that have put momentous time and effort into a show about three young women and their journeys finding who they are in the big world of magazines.
Don’t miss the 2-hour series premiere of The Bold Type July 11, 2017 on Freeform at 9/8c!
