Shadowhunters: Top Moments from “The Fair Folk” (Season 2 Episode 14)
Clary, Simon, and Jace visit the Seelie queen on Shadowhunters Season 2 Episode 14, “The Fair Folk,” and things do not go as planned.
Clary has been fighting her feelings for Jace for far too long, and it’s time they finally come out.
Here are my top moments from “The Fair Folk.”
Love Triangle Truth
Since the beginning of Clary and Simon’s relationship, it’s been undeniable that no matter what Clary says she’s still not over Jace. In her mind, she may think she is, but her heart knows that she isn’t.
As I’ve stated in previous articles, I don’t want Simon to get hurt due to Clary’s inability to own the fact that she’s in love with Jace, but it had to happen. Simon deserves to have someone who loves him unconditionally. He deserves to be with someone he doesn’t have to question loyalty with.
The only thing that’s upsetting about the truth finally coming out in “The Fair Folk” is after last week’s episode, “Those of Demon Blood,” Jace + Maia is something I was looking forward to exploring.
Think about it, Jace lights up every time he’s around Maia. Even when he’s in a mood and doesn’t want to talk he still jokes around with her. Deep down I feel like he might have some real feelings for her, but I don’t want Maia pulled into the relationship drama mess.
With the love triangle drama at an all time high, I want Maia nowhere near it.
Maryse’s Return

NICOLA CORREIA-DAMUDE
I’ve never been a big fan of Maryse for the sole reason of how she treats her children. But, her return as Alec is named the head of the Institute is a heart-warming reconciliation between Alec, Izzy, and her.
Maryse taking the blame for her wrongdoings and making genuine apologies to Izzy and Luke makes me re-think my views towards her. As she explained, when you’re in charge sometimes the big picture is out of view, and you become misguided.
My favorite part is when Izzy breaks down, telling Maryse about the Yin Fen and that she should leave Robert. No matter what they’ve been through that’s still Izzy’s mother and she doesn’t want her to be with someone who would cheat on her.
Downworlder/Shadowhunter Meetings

DAVID CASTRO, ISAIAH MUSTAFA

DAVID CASTRO, HARRY SHUM JR.
Alec is getting right to business as the head of the institute, and I like it. Weekly meetings with the leaders of the downworld are something that could make the bond between the two even stronger and show the clave that they’re wrong in their ways.
With there being starts of uprisings it’s a good thing to be able to get in touch with one another at moments notice to try and shut down whatever’s happening and prevent the clave from getting involved.
The only thing I don’t like is the fact that Magnus and Alec act like they aren’t together and it’s nothing but a business meeting. Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like Magnus and Alec are going back into hiding with their relationship in that aspect.
Magnus and Alec shouldn’t hide their relationship and act like it isn’t happening because everyone already knows what’s going on. Instead, they should be open to each other’s viewpoints and not be afraid to call one another out if something doesn’t sound right.
And let’s be honest, they act like Luke, Raphael, and Meliorn aren’t biased as well when Clary and Izzy are in the picture.
Other Thoughts:
- Meliorn had the best line of the episode with “all shadowhunters look alike to me.”
- Does the Seelie Queen think that Simon is a leader just because he’s a daylighter? It sure seemed like it.
- Now that Izzy and Raphael are both sober I would like to see them getting closer to one another. They would make a cute couple when they’re not on drugs.
- Luke’s partner continues to get creepier as she continues to stalk Luke and take photos of him. Who is she working for?
