The Flash Review: Infantino Street (Season 3 Episode 21)

Reviews, The Flash

Barry and Team Flash have 24 hours to save Iris on The Flash Season 3 Episode 21, “Infantino Street.”

Barry goes to Lyla to get help from  ARGUS to procure the power source they need to make the speed force bazooka that was discussed in Season 3 Episode 20, “Cause and Effect” work. But Lyla does not trust Barry, as she shouldn’t because he has a track record of messing things up. The biggest mistake that directly affected Lyla is Flashpoint, and baby Sara is now gone.

Since Barry has to have the part, he enlists the help of Captain Cold to break into ARGUS. To get Captain Cold he time travels yet again.

Joe and Iris are both amazed that he would do this considering it’s the whole reason they have all these problems. Conveniently, Team Flash has the tech to turn Barry into Lyla but it is not enough to get him through the door without some force.

Captain Cold and Barry stroll through ARGUS, with some nice references to other DC characters we’ve seen before (Suicide Squad) and some we haven’t (Cheetah from Wonder Woman comics). They wind up getting the power source that is guarded by King Shark with a few complications, before being caught.

Lyla catches them and then recants her refusal to help. She decides that if it can save Iris she wants Barry to have it. She gives in so easily that it is annoying that we had to go through the whole break in. However, it is great to see Captain Cold and I enjoy his snark.

Meanwhile, Team Flash sent Iris and Joe to Earth 2 so Savitar could not get to her. I suggested that they send her to a different Earth way back in Season 3 Episode 19, “The Once and Future Flash.” This seems like the absolute best plan that they could try. It should buy time to defeat Savitar without worrying about Iris.

Things can never go right for Team Flash. HR blurts out to Barry that Iris is safe on Earth 2, but it is Savitar! HR should not have said anything at all! If he tells Barry, Savitar will know because he knows what Barry knows. This is a terribly stupid thing for HR to do and is infuriating. Why would he say anything at all? Leave it as it is and Iris is safe.

On Earth 2 Iris and Joe share a touching moment of confessing things to each other and reminiscing. Then all hell breaks loose when Savitar appears and quickly tosses Wally out of the way. Joe thinks he can reason with him, since he is Barry, but he is not, so it’s all for nothing.

After repeatedly seeing the scene of Iris’ death, we have made it to the present day. The speed force bazooka fails and Iris dies just as she did every other time.

The show has spent so much time trying to save Iris that it’s a shocker that she actually dies. However, I don’t trust that the audience is not being tricked.

One theory about how Iris could still be alive is that HR uses his tech to look like her. He would’ve then found Iris with Savitar and swapped places. But that seems tricky to do. If they could swap couldn’t they just take Iris and no one would have to die?

There is always a chance Barry changes time again to save Iris. I have trouble believing deaths will stick in this universe. Too often we have a death then get the character back for me to be too upset about Iris.

I think if we went through most of this season trying to prevent Iris’ death only to then watch her die but she isn’t dead, it undercuts the importance of the season. I like Iris and I like seeing WestAllen but if the death doesn’t stick after all of the build up, then what is the point?

I don’t want to lose anyone but The Flash needs to show the consequences of this death. Barry needs to stop relying on time travel to “fix” everything. He needs to deal with what happens to him and grieve without obsessing and turning into Savitar.

I don’t want the show to play with my emotions by coming up with more ways to undo death. But only next week will prove whether or not the theories of Iris being alive is true.

Quick Thoughts

  • Where is Julian?
  • Iris’ video to Barry is extremely sweet and I loved it.
  • HR’s proposal for Tracy to join Team Flash is ridiculous but exactly like HR.
  • Next week looks GOOD.

Allie is a civil engineer who annoys her friends by trying to make them care about shows they don't watch. She is always obsessing over TV shows, watching as much Netflix and Hulu (they have all the good, old teen dramas!), and trying to find ways to entertain her dog while she watches TV.
