iZombie Review: Dirt Nap Time (Season 3 Episode 7)
Story lines are in motion on iZombie Season 3 Episode 7, titled “Dirt Nap Time.” Unfortunately, as much as I love watching Liv and the gang, this installment feels a little flat.
Before we get into the good, let’s talk about the bad. Maybe bad is the wrong word. Let’s go with inconsistent.
Not every brain can be a winner, but something is off about Liv on preschool teacher brain. Hot mess brain was annoying, but preschool teacher brain doesn’t seem to correlate with the man in which it came from.
We learn that the murdered teacher, Jaime, was a womanizer and slept with some of his students’ mothers. Liv taking on the personality of a womanizer could have been interesting. Instead, we get a lot of baby-talk.
Would Jaime have really spoken to adults this way? I doubt he would get that much attention from women if he spoke in a baby voice all the time. Liv brings out the “great listener” side of Jaime, but other than that, there isn’t anything that shows me who Jaime was as a cad.
The case is predictable with one of the woman’s husbands being the killer. So other than my own confusion over who Liv is supposed to be emulating, this is not the most engaging case.

Another part of the episode that makes no sense to me is everything going on with Major, Liv, and Justin. Major and Liv just slept together before he became a human again, and we all know they would get back together ASAP if Liv takes the cure.
So why is Major all chill about Justin asking Liv out? It’s incredibly noble if Major doesn’t want to hold Liv back, but his blessing feels too fast.
Also, Major has got to be kidding himself thinking he can pretend to be a zombie at Fillmore Graves. He can’t eat brains anymore and there is no way he will be able to keep up with his fellow mercenaries.
The world still views him as the Chaos Killer, even though his name was cleared. I get that he needs to find a place to fit in, but Fillmore Graves has their own agenda, and I don’t think they will want a human as one of their soldiers.
Then there’s Justin. This is the most time we’ve spent with him, and I can’t decide if he can be trusted.
Justin saw Liv and Ravi giving Major the cure, but appears to have kept the information to himself. While he doesn’t “out” Major to the other guys during their night at The Scratching Post, that doesn’t mean Justin is an ally.
I still think Justin may have told Vivian about the cure, and they went ahead and stole them. Perhaps Vivian wants Justin to stay close to Major and Liv.
There could be a real spark between Liv and Justin, but we can’t say for sure he’s not just doing Vivian’s bidding. Maybe this is just me wanting to see Liv and Major together, but I can’t trust Justin yet.

Now let’s get to what works in the episode! There was something off when the killer of the dominatrix confessed so easily in iZombie Season 3 Episode 5, so I’m hsppy this case isn’t closed yet.
Whatever is hiding on that memory card is going to make waves. I’m wondering if this will end up connected to zombies somehow.
Thorne whispered something into the killer’s ear that made him commit suicide. There must be someone powerful behind the scenes that’s threatening enough for a guy to kill himself. There’s also the possibility that he was silenced (aka murdered) and it was made to look like a suicide.
Putting the dominatrix killer’s brain into the blue juice is a great idea. With Liv’s help, they can get more insight into what really happened with that woman’s murder, and who the killer was being controlled by.
However, we need to keep in mind that the killer supposedly had some sort of mental illness. I don’t recall Liv being on the brain of someone with a mental illness, so eating this brain could end up backfiring.
Then we have the little matter of Justin being caught on camera in full-on zombie mode! Major and Justin’s failed attempt at killing(?), capturing(?), scaring (?) Harley and his buddy failed miserably.
Footage can be manipulated all the time. The majority of society would probably see the video as a hoax or a really well done home movie. Still, that type of exposure isn’t going to help the zombies keep a low profile.

I think it’s safe to say that Blaine hasn’t had the best couple of days. First he got dumped by Peyton, then he gets punched in the face by Liv, then he has his business taken away from him by Don E, and then the cherry on top is getting shot by one of his dad’s goons.
Blaine seems to have genuinely cared about Peyton, so it’s hard not to feel bad for him. However, karma is indeed a bitch.
He’s been a bad guy the majority of the time we’ve known him. That can’t all be pushed to the side simply because he’s acting all angsty.
Despite the gunshot to the gut, I doubt Blaine will be killed off. That would be such an anti-climatic death. Besides, there is an opportunity for the writers to take Blaine down a road of redemption or push him back into villain mode.
Then we have the cure. Blaine and Don E both denied taking it, and I believe them. So if it wasn’t them, then my money is on Fillmore Graves. They just seem the most likely since Justin has an in with the gang.
I guess that’s a mystery we’ll have to solve later. On the bright side, we get to see Liv be on more brains, and Clive gets to keep his partner.

I hope they turn Blaine back to his old villain self. It would be the more reallistic and good writing to keep to real character – he has no reason to go redemption mode at all.
