The Flash Review: I Know Who You Are (Season 3 Episode 20)

Reviews, The Flash

The Flash, Season 3 Episode 20, “I Know Who You Are,” FINALLY reveals Savitar’s identity.

Most of the episode focuses on Caitlin and how the team can stop her from being a killer. We still have not been given an explanation from the show as to why Caitlin’s powers make her evil. But I think that Savitar telling her she needs to kill if she is going to be called Killer Frost really helps push her into evil territory.

Cisco struggles throughout the episode with how to deal with Caitlin. As one of her closest friends it is completely understandable to me, but not to Julian.

Julian gets upset when Cisco does not use his powers to stop Caitlin when he has a chance. Cisco didn’t want to risk hurting her and I think Julian is feeling guilt since he made the decision to turn her into Killer Frost on The Flash Season 3 Episode 18, “Abra Kadabra.”

Killer Frost spends the episode going after Tracy, a scientist who understands aspects of the speed force no one else has discovered. Tracy’s talk about her research brings lots of jargon which reminds me of earlier The Flash episodes but also confuses me. She comes up with the idea of how to stop Savitar and trap him in the speed force.

HR is tasked with protecting Tracy, and I love his scenes with her. Tom Cavanaugh does a great job portraying all the Wells but HR is the most fun. He is also the worst person to send to protect someone, since he has no powers or scientific knowledge.

It is nice to see HR make a relationship outside of Team Flash and I do hope Tracy gets to stick around for awhile.

The climatic battle scene is to save Tracy and Cecile from Killer Frost. Cisco has to finally battle Caitlin to make her stop. They think they are going to get Caitlin back, but Savitar speeds in and takes her away. Not before Cisco could get some blood from Caitlin that they can work into a cure. This is another thing they should have been working on all along!

In the final scenes, Barry thinks about Savitar and flashes to some clues that we have had along the way. Then he confronts Savitar with the episode title “I Know Who You Are,” but by this point the whole audience does too. Future scar-covered Barry Allen emerges from the Savitar suit to show himself to our Barry.

I’ve watched quite a few time travel shows and they almost always end up confusing.

Future Barry being Savitar is no exception. I’d like to know how far into the future Barry turned into to Savitar. He almost certainly wasn’t on “The Once and Future Flash,” but somewhere he turns into this Barry.

Did Barry traveling to the future to get the Emo-Barry to join back up Team Flash not have an effect on Savitar’s fate? Did it cause it or make it take longer?

Or was Barry’s trip to the future always what happened? Does changing any part of the future change the Savitar situation and if it does, how – since Savitar is already in the past? Time travel confuses me, and I doubt they will address any of this in the upcoming episodes.

A couple of things about Savitar being Barry that do make sense are his power over Caitlin. Of course Caitlin would trust Future Barry when he tells her to help him. This makes Caitlin joining the evil side a little easier to swallow. Also, Savitar’s knowledge of the team and what happens makes sense since he was there.

The rest of the season should be all headed to the final Savitar battle and I am excited to see how this all plays out.

Quick Thoughts:

  • Wally just goes to another Earth in thee crucial times.
  • I’m glad Cecile knows about Joe’s speedster children! But did he tell her about Iris’ looming death?
  • Can we ever get a villain who isn’t a part of the team?

Allie is a civil engineer who annoys her friends by trying to make them care about shows they don't watch. She is always obsessing over TV shows, watching as much Netflix and Hulu (they have all the good, old teen dramas!), and trying to find ways to entertain her dog while she watches TV.
