Jane The Virgin Review: Chapter Sixty-Four (Season 3 Episode 20)

Jane the Virgin, Reviews

Not even a rainstorm, a blackout, and a ruined wedding dress can prevent Rogelio and Xiomara from officially tying the knot on Jane The Virgin Season 3 Episode 20 (“Chapter Sixty-Four”).

As Jane The Virgin Season 3 Episode 20 wraps up this season, there are plenty of plot twists that occur. As Jane stresses over the wedding plans for her parents and wonders what her speech will be, she also wonders about the concept of what’s “meant to be” and if that’s even what’s the most important above all else.

Following the time jump, Jane has been able to grow immensely in her new life without Michael around. But she’s been able to hold onto his memory dearly, and I’m so glad that on “Chapter Sixty-Four” we get to see some flashbacks of Michael and that sweet letter he wrote to Jane before they got married. Cue the tears.

As the theme of this finale centers on what’s meant to be and what’s not, Jane realizes something about not only her parents’ love but her and Michael’s beautiful love story, too. Just as her parents chose each other, she and Michael chose each other.

I think that is a good point to make — that it’s not always about who is meant to be, but how your story and all the life challenges you face with each other are what really embodies the growth of your relationship.

Rogelio and Xiomara’s relationship was never that easy, and they hit a lot of bumps in the road. But in the end, it’s how you use those experiences to create an even more beautiful one. That’s pretty much what Jane says during her speech.

With Michael and Jane’s story, it just keeps on becoming more beautiful when you consider how he’s still a part of this show in one form or another. Even when he’s not really there, the flashbacks of these two never fail to show how great they were together and how he loved her so much. This episode does a great job at piecing my heart (still wounded over losing Michael) back together again.

Jane The Virgin does so well at representing the Villanueva women as such a strong family together. Their moments really do get you teary-eyed, especially when Alba gives another one of her emotional speeches. You can’t break the Villanueva women, no matter how many twists and turns they come to face. The love is so pure with them.

But speaking of twists… We’ve got ourselves some twisted sisters on our hands. Anezka and Luisa both turn on their siblings in the finale. To be honest, I don’t know who I can’t stand more: Anezka or Luisa. Just go away.

So, now Luisa decides to turn dark? And Anezka points the gun on her own sister? Really?

After all that Anezka has done to Petra, she decides to play the victim card? That’s so not cool. Petra never seems to catch a break.

Luisa’s storylines haven’t been as impressive as I thought they would be this season. She’s always going back to being so gullible. She just hasn’t developed well for me. Now that she’s found out about her father’s will, she wants to take over the Marbella and kick Rafael out.

We’ll see how that plays out next season. Plus, that scene with her kicking Rafael out is kind of awkward to watch. Rafael’s shocked face and the way that he walks out feels too easy. FIGHT FOR YOUR HOTEL, RAFAEL.

Last but not least, there’s that creeping love triangle that I mentioned I believed would start-up again in my last review of Jane The Virgin Season 3 Episode 19. The triangle begins to light up in the finale, and I’m not sure how I feel about this now.

No matter Petra’s circumstances, she will always be insecure of Jane, believing that Rafael will always choose Jane over her. But if she truly feels that way, isn’t it just better to not get back together with Rafael, then? Seeing how she confronts Rafael about it, I think in some way he knows that she is right.

Rafael and Jane have been the best of friends this season, and as I’ve mentioned before, I absolutely loved their co-parenting dynamic after the time jump. But now that Jane actually has feelings for Rafael again, maybe this is her way of trying to move on. As the narrator says in the beginning of the episode, “This is a telenovela,” and love triangles are just the icing on the cake. Right?

Other Thoughts:

  • Tyler Posey finally makes his guest appearance, and it only lasts a hot minute. But his storyline with Jane next season is about to get interesting, seeing as he was her first love. Looking forward to seeing how it pans out, but does this mean she’ll put her feelings for Rafael on hold now?
  • Rogelio is the ultimate scene-stealer in pretty much every episode of this show. Love Jaime Camil’s portrayal of him. Oh, and Rogelio now has a baby on the way with Darcy. They just HAD to have her get pregnant. But it’s okay, even this doesn’t ruin Rogelio and Xo getting married.
  • I really hope Rafael gets to keep his scruff next season. I have been enjoying Rafael’s new style so much more after this time jump. Justin Baldoni, you beautiful man, you.
  • I miss Michael Cordero so much.
