The Magicians: Top Moments from “Word as Bond” (Season 2 Episode 8)
The Magicians Season 2 Episode 8, “Word as Bond,” features an off-the-rails Julia, an angry Alice, and a worrying Margo as she handles the castle while Eliot is unconscious.
I have to admit, Julia running around without her shade is pretty impressive to watch, but bad for others.
Here are my top moments of “Word as Bond.”
Penny Admits His Love
Penny and Kady are something that I’ve been rooting for since she left to be with Marina out of fear. I’ve been hoping that she would finally make her way back into Penny’s arms, and she finally did.
Throughout the episode, it’s nothing but tension between them, rightfully so, until the very end. It’s obvious that Kady has been putting on a show to make it look like she doesn’t care, but she does. Her love for Penny hasn’t gone away.
Now that they’ve made up, I want to see them talk it out. I want Kady to sit Penny down and explain to him what happened, why she had to leave so quickly with no goodbye. It’s the least he deserves.
I’m upset that to find out the name of Reynard’s son Penny thought that he had to sign the contract with the librarians. Sure, Mayakovsky is a royal prick who takes his own time dealing with things, but with him, Penny wouldn’t be a slave who has to listen and do whatever when needed.

Penny Finding Out About Alice
Yes! This is something that I’ve patiently been waiting for. Quentin royally screwed himself by not letting anyone know that Alice is trapped inside of his body.
Quentin signing the contract to allow Alice free movements using his body is the dumbest decision he’s ever made. Well, not ever, but recently.
Now that Penny knows Q’s secret about Alice hopefully they can help him figure out how to get rid of her. Sooner or later Alice being trapped inside of Quentin is going to get him killed. He needs to know how to release her, quickly.

Eliot Waking Up
Don’t get me wrong I’m happy that Eliot woke up and isn’t dead or in a coma any longer. But, I do wish that he would’ve stayed asleep for at least another episode.
Margo is the one who pledged war against Loria, not Eliot. Margo is the High Queen, so she needs to learn how to be a High Queen without anyone to lean on.
Eliot is Margo’s rock, and she can’t go on without him. Eliot being unconscious had Margo going stir crazy, but it also motivated her to get her act together and decide what she wants to do against Loria.
Margo pulling herself together at the end and acting like a real queen is the reason why I wish Eliot had stayed asleep for at least one more episode.
Julia Has Lost Her Shade
Without her shade, Julia is reckless and has no care in the world. Julia blowing up the One Way Forest is not only reckless but is severe. Now Margo and Eliot are going to have to deal with the dryads and trees.
It’s obvious how far gone Julia is when she just teleports out Fillory and lands right in Reynard’s hands. If Quentin hadn’t of jumped with her and teleported her back to Fillory the moment Reynard started threatening him they could’ve both died.

Other Thoughts:
- I give major props to Margo for putting Julia in the dungeon and teaching her a lesson instead of just ignoring it.
- Quentin, Penny, Eliot, Margo, and Kady need to figure out how to get Julia’s shade back before she goes completely nuts.
- If Penny can jump into Quentin’s mind and see Alice, does this mean that he can also kill her while he’s in his head?
