The Flash Review: Into the Speed Force (Season 3 Episode 16)
Barry goes “Into the Speed Force” to try to save Wally on The Flash Season 3 Episode 16. The speed force is annoyed to see Barry again.
As soon as Barry gets into the speed force, Eddie gives him the speech about how he had ruined everything with Flashpoint. This felt like a great audience surrogate to express the grudge against Barry and his bad decisions.
Seeing old characters and alternate realities is always interesting. I loved seeing characters that have left. But I’m not sure Barry needed to see all of them to take responsibility for his decisions.
Jay Garrick taking Wally’s place is sad! Of course, Wally has to be saved because he is in our world. Earth 1 must have so many problems to need all the speedsters they have! It seems cruel to rob a place of their only speedster.
Jay does sacrifice himself for Wally while giving Barry a great pep talk, that he somehow did not end in telling Barry to run.
Snart and Jay Garrick are great in their returns to The Flash. I think they are the main ones to inspire Barry to fight Savitar. Not that Barry needed more motivation than the love of his life dying.

The message Barry was supposed to take from the speed force was confusing to me. I saw it as more of a these are the problems you cause when you make bad decisions and mess with time. But Barry says it is only his responsibility to save Iris.
All speedsters seem to have the same “I can do it all” mentality.
Jesse takes the piece of Savitar to find him and take him on by herself. She just saw her boyfriend imprisoned because of him, and Barry has had no luck stopping him, but sure Jesse can do it herself! If they could just all three work together maybe they could stop him.
It is frustrating for them to call themselves a team and then continuously try to figure things out on their own. I think to save Iris Barry needs to not do it alone but utilize the whole team!
The most “heartbreaking” scene was saved for the end. After half this season ending with sweet WestAllen scenes we now get the devastating ones.
Barry takes back his proposal to Iris claiming he only did it to change the future. I knew that the writers would not let them be happily engaged, but it is just manufactured obstacles to make for more drama.
All Barry has wanted throughout is Iris and now he is just gonna walk away. Presumably this is a way he thinks he can save her, but I don’t think anything can change his future.
Quick Thoughts
- If you told me the Wells’ switched places I wouldn’t be too surprised.
- Very excited for next week’s musical!
- H.R.’s confusion of our Earth is always entertaining.
