Girls Review: Full Disclosure (Season 6 Episode 6)

Girls, Reviews

We’re over the halfway mark for the final season of Girls, and Season 6 Episode 6 “Full Disclosure” is probably the weakest episode of the season but still a pretty decent one. We clearly start to see the end game now as pieces (and people) come together for the final four episodes.

“Full Disclosure” is a fitting title as Hannah continues to tell the people in her life about her pregnancy, and they weigh in on whether or not she should tell Paul- Louis about his child.

It’s also the name of Adam and Jessa’s 47-minute movie.

The opening scene between Marnie and Hannah is one of the best of the episode. Marnie is so awful, but her excitement about the baby is actually kind of sweet. It’s hilarious, though, how Hannah momentarily reconsiders her decision because if Marnie’s on board with it, then something must be wrong.

Adam is the next person to find out about Hannah’s baby as he practically stalks her down the street. It’s fun to see them banter. They still have chemistry, and it’s the first time this season that it seems plausible that there could be more between Adam and Hannah once again.

The whole Jessa/Adam movie plot is still weird and seems just like a plot device to have interactions with Hannah. Also, Adam hounding Hannah to watch the movie is strange too because the conversation seems to exist solely for Hannah to tell Adam she’s pregnant.

Seriously, though, how did Jessa and Adam make the movie so quickly? It’s a minor detail but come on.

The most obvious incident on “Full Disclosure” that we’re nearing the end of the series, is when Jessa shows up at Hannah’s, hurt that Hannah didn’t tell her about the pregnancy, and how Jessa considers Hannah to be a “dear friend.”

The confrontation happens very quickly and results in a somewhat unexpected way. Jessa has always been a toxic character, but she’s always been welcomed back into people’s lives. So it’s refreshing to see Hannah cut Jessa out.

There is a moment later when Hannah retreats to her room to call someone. Thankfully, she doesn’t call Jessa but makes a feeble attempt to reach Paul-Louis. Whew.

There are a couple of disappointing moments or developments with “Full Disclosure.”

As much as Hannah and Elijah are magical together, their powerful fight from “Gummies” is resolved very quickly. However, we do get this gem from Elijah, so all is forgiven.

Elijah: You’re certainly not going to be the worst mother. Candy Spelling is still alive, so.”

Apparently, Hannah does need “closure” from Adam, although it seemed like she achieved that in the Season 5 finale. To be fair, Hannah and Adam had an intense relationship, and those feelings that you develop for people, especially in your twenties, does not go away easily.

Will there be a reunion between Hannah and Adam? This question is certainly raised further by the emotions on Hannah’s face at the end of the episode and by Adam’s after Hannah told him she is pregnant.

A re-coupling is definitely not the healthiest thing for either of them. They have both been guilty of messing up their relationship although they have somewhat matured.

There is also too much Marnie on this episode. She’s truly terrible and over the top in her awfulness.

Sound Guy: I gotta go pick up my girlfriend from the hospital.
Marnie: Why don’t you just get her an Uber?

Marnie finally reaches her rock bottom as she sings at a birthday party in New Jersey with her mom, who introduces them as the Michaels Sisters. Ugh.

Adding to the disappointment file is that there is no Shosh. Surely, she must have some opinions on Hannah’s pregnancy. It seems like Shoshanna, though, only exists this season to cheer up Ray.

Overall, “Full Disclosure” has some great moments, but it’s a little too rushed to be a great episode. Things are starting to happen quickly as we reach the final four episodes, but, hopefully, the next few episodes slow down when it matters.

Last Thoughts:

  • So many hilarious Elijah lines, like this one “Our kid’s gonna have great skin and be the right kind of slutty!”
  • Full Dis:Closure footage better be available on the Girls DVD extras.
  • Rita Wilson’s Evie Michaels,  is a close second-place MVP of the episode next to Elijah.
  • Is this the last we’ll see of Desi?
  • Riz Ahmed is on next week’s episode — YAY!!!
