The Flash Review: Attack on Gorilla City (Season 3 Episode 13)
The Flash Season 3 Episode 13, “Attack on Gorilla City,” takes Team Flash to Earth 2 to face off against intelligent gorillas that are more intelligent than the geniuses of Team Flash.
While The Flash tends to embrace the silly aspects of superhero genre by having crazy comic villains come to the show, Grodd does not work for me.
The combination of so much CGI, a crazy story-line about gorillas, and Grodd having Barry play right into his hand is too much for me to accept in one episode.

The most confusing thing about Grodd is that when he possesses people to talk through they have to talk in gorilla voice.
Having most of an episode take place in a city of gorillas is a big undertaking and lends itself to having a little too much CGI. The arena scene was the scene that can take you out of watching because the CGI is so noticeable.
A weakness in this episode is that Barry doesn’t dodge the darts that are shot at him. He’s the fastest man alive, according to the intro every week, he should be able to dodge a dart. He should also be able to fight without needing a play-by-play from Cisco.
Barry and his friends are easily tricked to do exactly as Grodd wants.
Caitlin using her powers to help fake Barry’s death will hopefully give her the confidence to embrace them. Caitlin is convinced if she uses her powers she will be evil, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

While the gorilla story did not work for me, everything Julian did was enjoyable. He is so obviously into Caitlin and I’m glad she is finally noticing.
Tom Cavanagh is so much fun as H.R. Seeing him react to Wells being back was one of the best parts of the episode.
Back on Earth 1, Wally is once again too enthusiastic for his fans to admire him. This has to come back and cause a problem for him at some point in the future. Being Kid Flash isn’t all about fame.
Wally and Jesse don’t have the most amazing chemistry but I’m glad to see them kiss. Jesse coming to Earth 1 will let us explore more of Wally’s character.
This episode at least gave us a break from the constant talk of Iris dying, even though changing the future is mentioned. But a two parter about genius gorillas is not what I look forward to on The Flash.
Quick Thoughts:
- Julian saying “I live for danger” is funny.
- Iris telling Barry to not do anything stupid is advice I wish he would take.
- Most ridiculous suggestion is that Cisco has to die, wouldn’t they be stuck on Earth 2?
- Showing Gypsy in the previously on kind of gives away the ending.
- I don’t want another whole episode of gorillas!
