16 One-Season TV Shows That Should Have Been Renewed (continued):

9. Limitless

The TV sequel to the original film of the same name, Limitless left CBS just as quickly as it came. And that’s a shame. The cancelation of the series was shocking and undeserved.

Heck, even TV Guide put out an article listing the reasons the series should be renewed. Too bad that didn’t work.

10. Flash Forward

flash forward

Flash Forward is a sci-fi series with a unique premise: with almost everyone on the planet blacking out at the same time for about two minutes. Those people all see visions of their life six months in the future.

The plot of Flash Forward then become even more complex and fascinating, only to end before it was able to live up to its full potential.

11. Terriers

We all know the story. Critics love it, but the ratings are low. Though FX’s Terriers was critically acclaimed, even being nominated for The Television Critics Association award for Outstanding New Program (along with Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, mind you), the praise wasn’t enough to save the series.

12. Undeclared

Undeclared is kind of like the college version of Freaks and Geeks, and like the former, the cult favorite was canceled long before it should have been.

Undeclared stars Jay Baruchel, Carla Gallo, Charlie Hunnam, Monica Keena, Seth Rogen, Timm Sharp, and Loudon Wainwright. It was created by Judd Apatow, who executive produced Freaks and Geeks. The critically acclaimed series aired on Fox from 2001-2002.

13. Jane by Design

Jane by Design was the perfect show for ABC Family: a teenager named Jane (Erica Dash) with a secret identity, working for a high-powered fashion designer (Andie McDowell) who has no idea how old she really is! It had the potential to be a long-running hit.

ABC Family didn’t agree, and canceled the show after it’s freshman run, leaving fans to wonder whether or not Jane really had what it would take to keep her charade going.

14. Hellcats

Hellcats showed us the darker side of college cheerleading and what it takes to make it. Aly Michakla and Ashley Tisdale starred, leading a talented ensemble of characters who all joined the squad for different reasons, but were united as a family permanently.

The CW opted not to give it another season, but fans can always imagine what happened to the Hellcats.

15. Ben and Kate

This 2012 comedy had a wonderful cast with excellent chemistry — especially between Nat Faxon and Dakota Johnson as the titular siblings. It was a fun, unconventional family comedy with a silly and sweet sense of humor.

Sadly, FOX pulled the show off the air after thirteen episodes. The final three episodes never aired in the United States.

16. Selfie

Maybe it was the show’s title that turned viewers away from this 2014 comedy, but the “My Fair Lady”-inspired show definitely deserved a second season.

Karen Gillan and John Cho had incredible chemistry as Eliza Dooley and Henry Higgs, but the rom-com was canceled just as they were growing closer.

ABC took Selfie off its schedule after just seven episodes, but the final six episodes were released weekly on Hulu, which at least gave fans a bit of closure.

  • I totally agree with Flashforward. I do miss Chicago Code, it was a great 1 season drama and should have been extended.

  • I agree with you about Forever. From what I read, Forever’s writers did (and does) have plans for Season 2. The reason it was cancelled was because ABC wanted to own the rights to all the shows that they renewed. Forever’s owned by Warner Bros, so Forever was cancelled in spite of the audience.

    • Whoops! Sorry! I misread the article! Anyways, I completely agree with you about Forever.
