Grimm Review: The Son Also Rises (Season 6 Episode 8)
“No man chooses evil because it is evil; he only mistakes it for happiness.”
On Grimm Season 6 Episode 8, “The Son Also Rises,” the case of the week takes up the majority of the hour, unfortunately. It’s not surprising, but it’s still disappointing. It’s not like there are a wealth of mysteries and side storylines to explore.
While it’s a little exciting that Hank and Wu get a chance to team up and tackle a case all on their own, it simply isn’t entertaining. There’s so much going on with this case, and it’s hard to devote attention to it.
The only plus to the case is that it ends up being Wesen-adjacent. Are their any crimes committed by humans that happen in Portland?
However, it would have been a lot more fun if Hank and Wu went up against some Wesen. It could have been entertaining to see them figure out the Wesen connection without Nick’s grimm skills and also have them go toe to toe with some Wesen.
If we are going to continue to do the Wesen case of the week, then give us some lighter cases. The reason why Grimm Season 6 Episode 7 worked so well is that the Wesen went after Nick and company, and then it resulted in some absolutely, love-crazy hilarity.
As far as the demon in the mirror mystery goes, things are definitely getting a lot more intriguing. By the time Eve tells Nick that she’s afraid something is coming, you are on the edge of your seat and ready for it. Bring it on, mirror demon!
While we still don’t know how the demon connects to the cloth and stick, it’s okay. There’s more excitement than confusion building, but it will not stay that way for long. We definitely need to keep getting answers every week.
The demon obviously has a connection with Eve, and my money is that it is somehow related to her being saved by the stick. However, the stick also saved Nick, so maybe I’m wrong. Do you have a theory as to why the demon has been appearing to Eve?

Eve’s connection to the demon is definitely the focus (or one of them), but Renard’s storyline reminds us that we should be very concerned at how Diana is connected to everything that’s happening.
She hasn’t been visited by the demon in the mirror, but Diana has never had any issue seeing the symbols on the cloth. There’s something about her and her power that allows her to see more than anyone else can.
The cloth is also just a great way to get Renard back into the fold as, hopefully, an ally. Before, he’s been either the bad guy or just off in his own storyline, separated from everyone. Side note: where is Meisner?
If Renard’s focus continues to be on Diana’s safety and doesn’t try to use the stick/cloth as a power grab, then this storyline could return him back to the pre-Black Claw Renard aka the one that we all loved.
Renard clearly has resources available to him, as we learn by how quickly he learns about Diana’s drawing, and he could be useful to Team Grimm. It would be really cool to see how everyone reacts to him being a member of the team again, if only temporarily.
I doubt the team would welcome him back with open arms, but I don’t think they would turn away a father who is only concerned about the safety of his daughter. What do you think? Will this stick/cloth mystery force Renard to go to Nick for help to save/protect Diana?
What did you think of this episode of Grimm? Personally, the highlight of the hour is the birth dream. Monroe’s freak outs are just delightful, as is Rosalee telling him to knock it off. Share your thoughts in the comments below!
